One of the things that I've started to do with the time I spend offline is to get involved with healthy competitions or contests which can serve as a good test of my skill set. I try to test myself in physically and mentally demanding contests and for some reason, this is something I find enjoyable.
I do this because it is becoming fairly obvious in this day and time that the internet is already a big part of our lives. Yeah. I'm sure it wouldn't be a surprise that so many people get bored when they are in a situation that warrants doing stuff offline. This in itself is a problem but I don't think we need a radical solution to that problem.
That's where getting involved with offline games, competitions or contests can prove to be very effective. At least, that's the case for me.
At any given time, getting into a footballing competition would be my top choice, but circumstances have led to my decision to take a very long break from playing the game. Instead, I now go for other things like athletics competitions, especially running.
The most recent physical contest I recently got involved with is Checkers, a board game that's designed to be played by two people at a time. It's a strategy game which is popularly known as drafts.
I played this game a lot during my boarding school days and that was over a decade ago, but I never got to play that again until recently. The day I saw where young lads were playing the game, I immediately got involved and I was overwhelmed by a surge of anticipation.
It was fun to have an opportunity to play the game again after so long. I decided to get in for some rounds and I'm not surprised that I wasn't doing alright. I had trouble trying to work out a decent playing strategy and I got trashed the first couple of times I attempted playing that game again. I didn't even have the luxury to be embarrassed. Haha. I was just enjoying the moment.
That side of things worked itself out when I paid good attention and made an effort to consistently go for rounds, even when I was getting trashed by folks who were more knowledgeable about the game. After getting out strategized in 2 - 3 rounds, everything started to fall back in place. I got my first win in the 4th round or thereabout and that was the exact time I started to enjoy the game in Its fullness. Haha.
Aside from Checkers, I also got to play the Ludo game that day. Ludo is quite popular in Nigeria. You would be surprised to know that the first time I ever played Ludo was in 2020 and I consistently got trashed. Haha. When I got an opportunity to play it again a few weeks ago, I just got in, got trashed, and didn't hang around for more trashing. Haha. My competitive heart couldn't take that much trashing for a game that doesn't exactly whet my appetite.
That's it, folks. These physical games are interesting to play and there are more of those in my books. Of course, winning would be nice, but I can also be a good sport even when I'm losing.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.
