It's quite hilarious when we think about certain things we believed to be true as kids, it's funny because some of them were proven to be true to us, but in the real sense, they were lies framed for different reasons, most of which were either to scare us as children or based on some superstitious beliefs that some adults still believe to be true. Some of the lies I was told to stop me from doing certain things were;...
NEVER SWALLOW FRUIT SEEDS, THEY WILL GROW IN YOUR STOMACH
I was still a child when I stopped believing this lie, (age seven if I remember correctly) I remember how I mistakenly swallowed a watermelon seed and was scared it will grow in my stomach. My mum wasn't around, so after crying and not finishing the watermelon because of the fear, I fell asleep only to wake up to forget I was going to tell my mum anything. It was nearly a week later when she bought another watermelon that I remembered that I swallowed the previous one and it hadn't grown in my stomach. I refused to eat the watermelon with the mind that I will watch the growth of the first one I swallowed, at a point I even thought my stomach was getting bigger, and any little stomach I got, I will remember I swallowed a watermelon seed. I didn't want to also tell my mum feeling I had made a terrible mistake so instead I battled the guilt with my conscience until I eat watermelon again after some time and mistakenly swallowed three seeds. This time I was sure that the seed will surely grow in my stomach, but after some time, I saw my mum eat watermelon with the seed in it and concluded within myself that it was a big fat lie. Later as I grew older I came to understand that the seed itself (watermelon) is medicinal, and not all fruit seeds should be swallowed. The lie was certainly to stop me from causing myself any health issues by swallowing fruit seeds.

A LIZARD SKIN OR SPIT CAUSES LEPROSY
Another big fat lie that I was told to stop me from playing with these reptiles. Later on, I knew it was a lie when I started watching Nat-geo Wild and saw how people play with lizards. At first, It was an assumption but when a lizard fell from the wall in my school and landed in my hand, although I was scared as hell, but when I got myself I was trying to look for the leprosy 😂...
OJUJU CALABA
One lie that was drawn from superstitious beliefs was this. Many adults still believe to date that masquerades are evil spirits and thus should be feared as such. I was in fact already an adult when I saw a masquerade pull off the mask and was calling his girlfriend that he was at work. I remember the look on the faces of everyone around in the small shop I was seating that day as though we all witnessed the unreal becoming real.
With all these, there are still some lies that I wonder who on earth sat down to cook. If you are a Nigerian child that didn't hear about Nigeria vs India (99 - 1) lie, plus some that even said the ball in that game turned to snake... I will rest my case here, and forgive the liars, the memories however are really hilarious.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today, until next time.
