It was a normal day for my family, just like any other day, the morning came and we went about our daily activities. We had recently moved into our newly completed building, but it had not yet been fenced because we moved in a hurry. My mum was pregnant with my fourth sibling and our old house was too small to take an extra human talk less taking a newborn with everything that comes after it. My dad though wasn't ready to move until everything was in place in the new house, but my mum was insistent considering she was overdue to give birth and how hard it would be moving to a new home with a newborn.
We finally moved and my mum gave birth to a baby boy a day after, still settling in the house we were working on a lot of things bit by bit, from the wall paintings in the rooms to the house interiors. We had dug the foundation for the fence but were yet to erect a structure because of the plenty of expenses that were on my dad. My mum had to advise him to take things slowly so he doesn't get choked up with expenses. Little did we know that not setting up security measures will hunt us sooner than we anticipated.
It was on a Saturday, and I was washing my dad's car at around 8:00 pm. He came late from work that day and needed the car to be washed for church service on Sunday. My mum decided to come outside to stay with me while I washed the car as it was already late. However, in the process of washing two men approached us saying they were looking for someone, just as my mum asked who they were looking for, both men pulled out the pistol they had on them saying we were the ones they were looking for. It was had that moment my mum and I realized who they were, but could do nothing seeing the pistols in their hand.
If I should be honest, there was no element of emotion running through me for reasons I still can't tell, unlike my mum who was already trembling at the sight of the gun. I was busy thinking of what to do to probably escape or overpower the guy behind me, but at the same time I was thinking what if something goes wrong and that gun is truly loaded (The first thought that clouded my mind was if the gun was truly loaded.) I thought about my mum getting caught in a crossfire and decided to stay put as the robbers matched us inside the house. My dad was laying down on the sofa in the sitting room watching TV when one of the robbers pointed the gun to his neck and stood him up immediately. My dad turned and saw my mum and me, he immediately started trembling as the robbers told every one of us to lay down flat on the floor.

While one stayed with us, the other went inside and came with two of my siblings (my sister and brother 12 and 5 years old respectively) . They were with my baby brother in one of the rooms. It was at that moment that fear clouded me with the thought of my baby brother and I could hear his voice crying as my sister and brother came to the living room. I was soon relieved when they came and the guy that brought them called my mum to go inside and bring the baby herself. Soon enough they started scattering everywhere and took the televisions and some movable household items. They took all our phones and asked if I had a laptop which I was glad I didn't. The guy noticed I responded without fear and tried intimidating me by pointing his gun further at me, but it wasn't working, as I almost burst into laughter in the process.
Seeing my reaction still he started hitting me but was stopped by his colleague saying they had to go in a hurry. They ensured we all bowed our heads down as they took my dad's car key and locked us inside. After we realized they had gone we all got up and came together. Everyone was still in fear, except me though, but I just hugged them to calm down the tension that was already there, especially with my siblings. My dad and I looked for a way to come outside through the back door, and we later went on to inform the street chairman who opted immediately to get security and went on patrol. They were only able to recover my dad's car, but my dad ensured that the fence was erected the next week. This is all about my crime experience which taught my family to be very security conscious and always take note of things going on in our environment.
