The story I will share in this post happened a few months back. I shared it the day after the event occurred, but I'm not sure many will remember so I will share it again. I'm not usually known for violence, I used to be growing up, but since I stopped over 9 years ago, it's been hard to go back. I'm happy about it though, but I feel like a weakling when events occur and violence is needed, but I can neither find the anger nor morale to react violently. Violence is not usually the first thing that comes to mind whenever I come across bullies or unreasonable people, I would instead start thinking of a way for peace and after everything is over, I would start thinking I should have reacted violently a bit at least lol. So with no further ado, here's my story according to the hive learners prompt for week 88 episode 1.
I had this friend who was very close to me, she would tell me a lot of things going on in her life, things her parents, or anyone for that matter never knew about her. I on the other side was trying the best way I could think of to help her, and try to be there for her as a friend as much as I could. She was a new student in school and a weirdo, to begin with, so she didn't have many friends but overall she was a really nice person getting to know her. She had experienced and endured things that would make many girls of her age commit suicide and was merely trying to survive each day when I knew her. She was also in an abusive relationship where she was often sexually and emotionally abused until I found a way of pulling her out of it. (Just so it's easy to understand why we're very close.)
The day she broke up with her boyfriend, she was feeling all sad and was talking about getting high so she would forget everything going on with her. It was hard to convince her to do otherwise, but I was able to, except that it was for only that day which happened to be on a Saturday. The next day, she knew I would be going to church and refused to follow me as she would on a norm because she wanted to go out against my advice the previous day. She had a date and only called to tell me her plan when I was already in church. I just decided to allow her to do her wish, until I got back home and she called again to tell me where her date was taking her to.
About 20 minutes later she sent me a text message saying the guy was behaving strangely, and had taken her to his office instead of a restaurant as they agreed. He told her that he just wanted to get something, but was taking longer than expected and was also ordering food for them (at his office). I just read the message and replied to her to be very careful and be on the lookout as I was hoping to take a nap when the message came in. About 5 minutes later I got a message notification, but didn't open it because I wanted to sleep. Shortly after a call came in, I just picked without looking at the number hoping to sleep afterwards. But then it was her screaming on the phone, and struggling with the guy over the phone.
This was when my eyes opened and I saw she had sent me the address of where she was. I immediately stood up and started running, seeing the address was not too far from my place, although it would have been quicker if I took public transport, I realized I didn't carry money on me when I was already a distance away from my house. It was about to rain that day, but I could care less about the weather. I was just running like a mad man until I got to the location and discovered it would be difficult getting the exact office she was in as there were a lot of offices in that area. I decided to stay calm and listen for any unusual noise, but I heard nothing. I checked in the offices that were open but I knew somehow nothing was happening there.
So I started knocking on a door. My instincts told me to knock in after surveying the area. It was the only door that could be locked from the inside and it was soundproof. After knocking heavily for a while I heard nothing and decided to take a step back when she called again saying it was the door I was knocking. She was using a bedroom voice and I decided to change strategy by knocking as though it was more than one person. I was looking for a way to break down the door when the door opened and she ran out. The guy locked himself inside the office in fear of what would happen if he came out, and he was right to have done that because I was ready for him that day.
My friend later explained everything clearer to me when she was calm at my place that he attempted raping her even when she was begging and explaining that she was on her period. Although I was angry that she went against my advice which would have prevented everything from happening. I was more disappointed at what the guy was attempting to do, but overall grateful that he didn't succeed.
