So, last Saturday we had our hangout as usual, and it was just so much fun we did not want it to end. We are currently on the second topic for this week which is “NOT NEEDED”.
But before we proceed with the details of the topic, let us take a look at the winners of the last topic which was “IS HISTORY IMPORTANT?”.
This topic was geared toward each member of the community telling us about their thoughts on history as a subject in schools and how it’s no longer being taken seriously. Many schools don’t include it in their curriculum and as a result, so many students are denied knowledge of their history.
For schools that actually offer history, the story is only told in the way that the government sees it fit, whether it’s accurate or not. We got to see different ideas being shared; some wanted history to be taught and others felt that we’re all better off without it. It was an enlightening topic indeed.
For this topic, we went through every entry post, and that is every post with the #hl-exclusive & #hl-w139e1 tag. And with the number of wonderful posts out there it was quite difficult to make a selection. But eventually, we did just that. This author told us that history was important because it taught us a lot about the people who had come before us, how they lived and the mistakes they made. The decisions made by people in the past will guide the ones we make today to ensure that we don’t repeat the mistakes.
For this author, he shared with us that a country where the people had no knowledge of their history would be one where the people will have no sense of direction. Knowing the past will help the people plan for their future and also give them an idea the kind of future that they want for themselves. This goes to show just how important history is.

For this author, he told us that while many people know just how important history is, they’re just as reluctant in committing to learn about it. He shared with us the benefits of taking history more seriously and also suggested methods by which it could be achieved easier and better.
