When I saw the topic for this current edition of hive learners weekly featured contents, I asked myself; "do I even have good qualities that are worthy of emulation?". I even considered not taking part in this current edition but I later realized I was just being lazy about the whole thing, I know I have a lot of good qualities but I started by asking myself one question: who is a role model?
A role model is someone who inspires you to be better. They're people who were able to accomplish something great and then show you how it's done. They're people who have overcome obstacles, and they're able to show you how to do it too. Good role models can help us be better people, but they don't have to be perfect. They just have to be willing to share their knowledge with others and talk about things that make them happy.
I have a lot of good qualities but at the same time I have a few bad ones too and I tend to make mistakes sometimes but I like I said earlier, being a role model doesn't mean I have to be perfect, we all have our flaws and nobody expects us to be perfect. I am going to talk about some of those good attributes I possess that I think are worthy of emulation
I'm very responsible
I learned how to be very responsible from a very young age mostly because I'm the first child of my family and in an African setting, that comes with a lot of responsibilities. I knew quite well what it takes to be the first child in a family, so I took it upon myself to start prepping for the future.
I already carved out a path on how I want my future to look and I made sure I remain on track no matter the challenges I come across. I take responsibility for my actions, I don't issue blames to anybody when things go wrong because of decisions I made, I own up to my mistake and try to do things better next time, I always learn from my mistakes.
I love helping people
There's this feeling I get when I have helped someone who was having a difficult time and seeing the smile on their face when they eventually get the answers they needed. This is why I always love to teach people what I know, whenever someone comes to me with a problem about something I know about, I always take the time to teach them and make sure they understand it.
I'm very persistent when it comes to that aspect, I won't be able to rest until I'm sure the person fully understands the solution I provided, that's to say I'm very selfless. Just yesterday, a friend from India contacted me about an issue she was having with programming and I tried to help her with the solution after I realized the problem.
She kept messing it up and at one point she thought I will get angry because of the constant mistakes she was making but I was very patient and kept helping her to fix the problem until she eventually got it. Afterward, I explained what she did wrong and helped her to better understand the solution, this was what she said after the whole thing.
I'm very humble and respectful
Just like was said in the above screenshot, I'm a very humble person and you don't even need to meet me in person to realize that. Even though I take pride in some of my accomplishments (we're allowed to do that anyways), I don't let it get to my head and become arrogant, it takes more energy to be arrogant than to be humble, heck, my favorite Kendrick Lamar song is titled humble.
I'm also very respectful and that goes in line with being humble. I always respect anybody I come across and I see no reason to be rude to anybody just like what a lot of young people do today, they think being rude is cool. My parents raised me to be a respectful young man and I always carry that attribute wherever I go.
I'm very loyal and honest
I value loyalty very much and if I notice a person is very loyal to me, I also match their energy and reciprocate their loyalty, I'm ready to go all out for a person like that. I'm also a very honest person and sometimes it's seen as a problem because I point out things that other people don't want to talk about, I don't like hiding things.
Being honest can be very difficult sometimes, that's why I try to spice it up with humor and sarcasm; I'm a very funny and sarcastic being who also throws the truth into the mix. I tend to avoid problems and I try as much as possible to diffuse a situation before it gets out of hand, that's where my sense of humor becomes very handy.
Conclusion
I can go on and on about my other attributes but I will just leave it as it is, hence this article becoming very long. I initially thought I won't be able to come up with a lot of good things about myself but it's amazing to see what I can write when I actually settle down to think about it. I'm far from being a perfect person but I still have a lot of good qualities that can be emulated by anyone.
