For many of us, weekends are all about embracing the chill mode and it gives us the opportunity to take a break after a rigorous week. But for some other people, the weekend doesn't make much of a difference to them because they do the same thing as they do every other day. The only day they get to take a break is Sunday, and some of them still go to work that day.
The weekend represents different things for everyone. For some people, it's a day to rest from all the hustle and bustle of the week, and for others, it's a day for "owambe" (parties) and this is because most wedding ceremonies and other big events usually occur during the weekend. Also, a lot of people use the opportunity the weekend provides to catch up with family and friends
As a student, one thing I love about the weekend is that there are no classes or lectures. I get to stay home all day, just watching movies, playing games, and roaming around the Internet. That's why for me, my weekend starts on Saturday and it makes more logical sense for Saturday to be the weekend because if Sunday is the beginning of the week, shouldn't Saturday be the end? But a lot of people pick Friday as the beginning of the weekend.
There are certain factors that determine if my weekend will be enjoyable or not and all of them depend on one thing: the amount of free time I have. If there are no pending assignments and scheduled tests, then I will have a lot of time to relax and simply enjoy the weekend. But these days, I no longer enjoy the weekend because it's now looking like every other day.
Today being Saturday is an example of what I'm saying. I spent the night in school the previous day because I'm currently working on my project and I have to monitor it and collect data even at night. I came back from school around 12 pm today, took a quick nap, cooked and now I'm getting ready to go back to school again this evening.
Aside from the project I'm going to monitor this night, I still have to work on a term paper, prepare for a presentation that's coming up on Monday and study for some tests that will be coming up next week. Now you see why I said I no longer enjoy weekends. The only difference that this weekend has from other days is that there are no classes today and I still see that as a win; classes can be very boring sometimes 😅
What can ruin the weekend?
One thing that can ruin my weekend by its absence is the same thing that has been screwing us up in Nigeria for so many years; electricity. As I said earlier, I love the weekend because I get to spend the whole day at home but that won't be possible if there is no power supply and my devices go off. There have been some weekends that I reluctantly left home because I had to look for where to charge my phone and laptop.
The power supply on the university campus hardly goes off and I can always charge my devices during the week while in school but weekends are an exception because I usually don't plan on going into campus. Today is one of those days that there wasn't any power supply all through the day and my devices are currently low right now but luckily I'm going to spend the night in school, right? Well, that's the silver lining for this weekend.
That's just about it on how my weekends usually go. Yeah I know, I'm a boring person who will rather spend the entire weekend at home just playing mobile games and browsing the Internet but I'm always around people (my classmates) during the week, so I always appreciate the opportunity to get some time for myself and that's what the weekend provide for me, so why will I ruin that by going out? 😁
