Some years ago, I was just hearing about blogging. I never knew I would be a blogger someday. Then at a point, I heard of crypto currency and I never considered it a line of investment for me either.
The whole narrative changed about 16 months ago when my onboarder guided me to join hive. The first community that I joined on hive was theinkwell where short stories of less than 1500 words are written around a prompt weekly.
Prior to joining hive, the closest I have come to writing stories was when I published a fictional book on Amazon kdp. The book didn't do well but what I later learned on hive gave me the clue of the reason behind the book not doing well.
There is this spirit of helping one other to grow on hive blockchain. When someone joins this platform, support comes from different quarters to help the person understand the way things are done and the basic knowledge he is expected to have in order to succeed on the platform.
It was on this premise that my first post (introduction post) got the needed support from the wonderful people of hive to get me started. It proved to me in practical terms what my grandfather used to tell me that a tree does not make a forest. He would go further to tell me that monkeys are able to play around easily because of the close proximity of trees. What this was telling me those days is that I need people around me to make life easier just like some people also need me.
I experienced the practicability of this on hive. The community is there for everybody. Hive learners community has been at the forefront in propagating this and that unity of purpose is needed in today's world beyond the blockchain. I have learned this and it helps me in my dealings with people daily. I need others and they need me too as the case may be to make the world a better place for all.
Back to my experience in theinkwell community. It was in the community that I discovered that, though I have ideas in developing fictional stories, I lack the creative ways of putting such ideas together to attract the interest of readers.
Many helpful articles on how to improve one's writing were constantly suggested for me by the Admin each time they identified some loopholes in my writings. Since I started reading the suggested articles and working with what I learned, my stories started to improve.
It was also in theinkwell that an Application, Google doc, was recommended for me in checking the grammatical mistakes in my articles. The first time I ran my story through the application, I saw a lot of mistakes. Through that experience, I identify the reason that made my published book on Amazon unappealing to readers.
Beyond my stories on hive, I use the application to edit all my writings. It has been helpful.
Another important lesson that I learned since I started blogging is consistency and perseverance. You have to be consistent in breaking limits on this platform. You need to be consistent in adding values to the community.
Get-rich-quick mentality can't survive on hive. One needs to do away with the idea of coming for the crypto without the plan of staying for the community. The unity of the community makes the crypto valuable.
Consistency matters and the effect is obvious in the growth of my account. I wasn't consistent in my first year on this platform. I had a problematic phone couple with some other challenges and these made me inconsistent. The growth of my account in the last four months that I became consistent is more than that of the previous twelve months.
Consistency goes hand in hand with perseverance. Whether one is getting votes on his blog or not, perseverance demands that you don't give up. Many people that I met on this platform have written much about this and it's not something I joke with presently.
This is applicable to my life outside the blockchain. Whatever I plan to achieve, I consistently work towards it and never to give up in the face of failures. I keep on trying till I achieve my goal.
The experience so far is worthwhile and it's helpful beyond the blockchain.
