Learning is a process and I love learning, ever since I started this initiative I have been so excited, so excited to learn more about hive. The first task for this initiative was about setting our goals, it was so motivating and I have already seen myself achieving those goals.
For the second task, we learnt about some markdowns that are essential to make our post look nice and palatable. We also learnt about guidelines necessary on hive, and some basic things that we needed to know. In this post, I’ll be talking about them.
For this week’s task, I partnered with @debby-cwm, she is a really nice girl who is very open to learning and who is also willing to grow on hive. I have actually partnered with her before and I am so happy to partner with her again.
We took our time and talked at length on this week’s topic. It was quite unfortunate that Debby wouldn’t make it to the meeting but she surely watched the recording afterwards. I also did my best to tell her more about how the meeting went.
@debby-cwm talked about what she had learnt from what she watched, she was so curious to know more about the markdowns. Debby said her view on plagiarism and vote begging and how it can affect our account.
I took my time to explain some of the markdowns to her and I also promised to help her if she needed any help. I explained to her how unnecessary tags can be irritating to people being tagged, and also the usefulness of tags.
Firstly,
What is the difference between centralised and decentralised platforms?
Prior to me joining hive, I had never really had any knowledge about these two words (decentralised and centralised platforms), when I joined I came across the words but never really understood them. But now I think I can.
In my understanding, a centralised platform is a platform that is controlled by one person, one person owns the platform, and the same authority has the power to make certain changes which makes it quite vulnerable and this authority also has control over one’s data, some examples of centralised platforms are mostly web2 platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, etc.
A decentralised platform, is a platform in which it is not controlled by a single authority but controlled by various people under the platform. It is more transparent as everyone on the platform has more control over their data and assets. Most decentralised platforms are connected with crypto and blockchain and they are mostly web3 platforms. Examples of decentralised platforms are Hive and splinterland etc.
Plagiarism …..My thoughts on plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of writing or creating content that is initially not your own, content that has been published by someone else without sourcing it rightly or asking permission from the initial publisher.
It can also be when someone copies someone else’s post and stylishly makes a few changes in order to not be suspected. Plagiarism is a treacherous act that can lead to downvoting on Hive and also blacklisting. It is best advisable to create original content from your personal experience or ideas
Vote begging ..… my thoughts on vote begging.
Vote begging is an act of begging for votes or curation, it is the unnecessary tagging of people, especially influential people in order for them to see one’s post and one might get a chance of being curated, it is the act that might be disturbing to those being tagged.
I have kind of fallen victim to this, when I first joined Hive I usually wrote at the end of my post “If you like my post, kindly upvote, comment, and reblog. It will be well appreciated. Follow for more” but since I learnt about vote begging and its con I have stopped. It is best achieved to let anyone decide whether your post is quality or not enough to receive an upvote
Post recycling…. my thoughts on post recycling
Post recycling mostly occurs when someone runs out of content and he or she sees that one of her previous posts gained more audience and decided to reuse it and makes few changes to it, or even when it gained zero audience. It is best advisable to create new posts with new ideas and not repeat them or if one runs out of ideas, one can take his/her time to engage on hive and post when the idea comes
The importance of using the right tags.
Tags are very important in any post as they help to gain an audience and help people know what your post is about. Although people do use wrong tags. Using the right tags means using the tag that is appropriate and related to your post and just any tags others used
The importance of these tags is to expose your post to the right audience, if anyone searches for a tag that you have used, your posts will surely be seen. But imagine someone searched about finance and sees your posts that talk about love story under it, it is not just ideal
Also, avoid tagging curators as your posts have nothing to do with them. The right tags for your posts should be what the community requires, what your posts are about and also, general tags.
What are these general tags?
General tags are quite straightforward; there are tags that anyone can use. These also have their benefit as one can get tokens from them. Some of the general tags are proofofbrain, vyb, pimp, neoxian, etc.
There is much more to learn about hive and I’m so excited. A big thank you @starstrings01 for initiating this program and @nkemakonam89 for her contribution.
