Describing what a smartphone is to someone from the ‘60s can be very tiring and stressful. You just get to repeat the same thing over and over again.
They lived in a different century than we do, so a smartphone is quite new to them. People from the ‘60s are familiar with technology too but as technology in general is taking a big turn is quite different from the technology our generation has. In the ‘60s, they were a lot of devices back then; the TV, the cassette player, and even the telephone.
These gadgets are mostly rare at that time, in the undeveloped country, like my country. The rich people are the ones who were able to afford it then. So, even if the ‘60s are familiar with all these gadgets most of them were not opportune to have or use them until they work or grow to afford them.
In a way, the ‘60s are familiar with the telephone, which is fixed to the wall and one have to start rotating, which is quite stressful, this telephone and smartphones are quite similar except that this one is a lot more advanced.
The best way to I’d explain this is to start with what they are similar to, just like the wired telephone but in this case, the phone is portable you can carry it around and you can also do what the telephone can do on a smartphone.
I’ll say “ It is just having many gadgets combined in a small device called smartphones. In this, we have a player, telephone, computer, and alarm,… in it. Its communication level is quite different from that of the telephone, this ranges far. It connects to everyone, anywhere you might be with less stress, you can even see who you are communicating with.
The fact that smartphones are screen touch usually baffles those that are from the ‘60s, it is quite surprising to you, I know but it is easier. You just have to click on what you want to choose.
In this smartphone, there is some advantages to the internet which is a global network providing a variety of information. In your comfort, you can know what is happening around us, and you can receive a lot of information and search for a lot of information. There is no need for a newspaper except if you are a book person, you can literally check out the news from the comfort of your home. Just click.
And yes with the internet, you can also have access to social media which you can also use to connect to your friends or make new friends or even reconnect with your old friends. Social media platforms can also entertaining, you can watch people’s content or even make your own content.
You can also learn new things on the internet, you learn a craft or skill, you can learn a language, you can learn about history. You can even get a job or render services or even ask for services.
There is an application -apps in short- that can help your everyday life. They are apps that like calendars, calculators, notes, games, etc. Smart phone can even act as your personal assistant using Google Assistant or Siri. ”
With this, I think it is quite explanatory if I am to explain to someone from the ‘60s. What do you think I am missing?
