It's really funny how some people think they're intelligent because they probably have gone through high school and college and have acquired some certificates.
These kind of people are really not smart because if they were, they would know that school and certificates aren't a measure of intelligence and infact, judging with the literal meaning of the word itself (intelligence), you are would find out that intelligence isn't the knowledge inherent or domicile in an individual but the ability to use this knowledge to achieve an aim.
Merriam Webster dictionary defines intelligence as the ;
1a(1): the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations : REASON
also : the skilled use of reason
(2): the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment or to think abstractly as measured by objective criteria (such as tests)
c: mental acuteness : SHREWDNESS

From the above definitions, you would find out that even literarily, intelligence isn't a measure of knowledge, good grades or school.
Good grades are to a large extent a measure of your ability to retain and recall the knowledge you have been given. In school we a lot of knowledge is passed to us. A certified graduate from the university is presumed to have garnered adequate knowledge from his or her field of studies, how he can use the knowledge he has to maneuver situations will show if he is intelligent. Also if he can make a difference with the knowledge he has got will show how intelligent he or she is.
In some cases you would find out that people who did not attend school would even do better than in some areas than people who attended school and studied that field. Some people although not schooled can think of solutions, strategies and can critically analyse and predict things even more than people who went to school
Don't get me wrong, school also has an effect on our intelligence quotient. Although intelligence is inherent, school can help we build our mental competence and our ability to comprehend things. In school we are forced to think and research. The brain works like the muscle, the more we hit the gym and workout, the more our muscles increase in size and strength, so does the brain, the more we think, study and research, the more our brain develops and we become more intelligent. We can comprehend things better and we can be more shrewd and skillful.
Let me give you an analogy to explain how although school influences our degree of intelligence, intelligence is still not a measure of grades and school.
You know how some people go to the gym to build muscles and after they do this for months and years they come out all built and strong but you still can find people who although do not go to the gym and have not trained so hard have more strength than the muscular person. This is how intelligence and school is. The school is the gym, and the person who visits the gym is the person that goes to school while the person who although didn't go to the gym is stronger than the one who went to the gym is the person that didn't attend school.
With these points, I hope you will agree with me that intelligence is not a measure or function of our grades and school although school can help improve our intelligence
