I have always been a lover of clean space, that was how I was brought up, and even though I see my mums shouting and all as her punishing me, it does help. Well, my cleanliness is not the perfect type of good, big, clean curtains, AC, scented candles, maybe if money was there it would have been like this, but mine was the kind where everything in the house is kept clean and well arranged, everything smells good, clothes neatly folded, even though my room is small, the way it was arranged won't make you believe it is, there's still enough space to walk and do something's, my house is arranged in such a way that I know the exact place where I place my things, even in the dark, I can make my way or pick up anything.
It's not as if money does not help, money does help, in fact money makes cleanliness more seen and more easier. Have you ever tried washing your toilet with salt or certain detergents because the hypo or harpic you often use has finished and there's no money to get another? I have. Have you ever used your last card to buy water and you who love to wash your cloth twice or rinse it twice had to settle for once, cause you doing it twice meant you won't get enough water to bath or cook? I also have. Being an orderly and clean person when you are broke is another thing in it's own. You would just have to make do with what you have, as you can't afford to keep things/your space dirty.
That's what I do, cause cleanliness to me is how I feel about myself. Since I can't afford to get a wiper or something to wipe the kitchen wall tile, the slab and all, I would go cut one of my old clothes, dip it in soap water and do the best I can to make it clean. I love cleanliness a whole lot, and believe you me, there's a different kind of dignity that comes with it(cleanliness).
Also, I’ve seen people who are wealthy who don’t care. You open their fridge and you have to close it back hurriedly cause of the smell it . You enter their kitchen and still see footprints and stains of soup of yesterday’s dinner everywhere. So, to me, it's not just about money. I believe it's how you were raised, it's about your values and your choice. Scrolling through Facebook sometimes, I saw a woman complain of how the husband mostimes leave the toilet unflushed, and goes to the office or bed like that. So, money helps, but it doesn’t teach you to flush, money can help buy a mop, but it won't bend your back to use it.
I think money only begets hygiene when the individual values cleanliness. Because I had nothing and still I am clean, and have seen those who are rich but yet dirty. If I were to have more today, I’ll get things that would make my space look more nicer and also get things that would make cleaning easier for me.
All pictures are mine.
