I could vividly remember the day I got angry because my mum didn't want me to take a vaccination. According to her, “Don’t take that thing o, you won't be able to think for yourself again, they just want to introduce into your system something that would reset your brain.” What amazed and angered me was how fierce, serious and confident she was. I don't get, is she there when the vaccine was prepared, or had someone who was a part of it confessed to her.
When we got home, after she has successfully dissuade me from taking it and I had blamed myself for taking her along. Well, I would definitely go behind her, I just sat down to eat my already cold food, I just know she was scrolling through the same phone she had pressured us to get her, I was just eating on my own when she suddenly gave a loud sigh, I didn't even act like I heard her, this is common to her, I was hoping to put off the data to her Tiktok and Facebook someday.
That aside, not long again, she screamed again, well I asked consider her, "what's wrong?", then she said, “is it not what I was telling you earlier, see it na”, she turned her phone to show me a video of one man shouting anyhow while warning about how dangerous vaccines and that they are meant to reduce the world population and a lot more. I wanted to smile, but then I just shook my head and continued with my food praying my mum wouldn't be the end of me.
Nigeria, my dear country, one filled with a whole lot of things, today you hear they've turned someone to yam, tomorrow you hear how many people died from cholera and the next day we are complaining about vaccines. My ears are filled already with various theories, especially during the COVID period and vaccines came out, different things were said, "they are trying to track us with it, they want to reduce the population, it causes infertility, better don't take it, people who took the full dose are experiencing severe pains, people are dying from the vaccines........" and a lot more are being said.
Personally, I take vaccinations seriously. Maybe it’s because I had experience some things while I was still way younger. Even though I very well remember how I went to hide under the benches in church back then with my elder brother when some health practitioners came to give immunization. That was then. After then, we changed environment, we stayed in a certain area that wasn't in anyways for me, health wise is was so disturbing. So, I took treatment/preventions very seriously. And when the announcement for COVID vaccines came, I waled myself to the health center nearest to my place. The nurse didn’t even have a smile on her face, she was too serious for my liking, she just said, take off your shirt.” Me I was like me or who, take off my shirt bawo, say wetin, on top say kini....She just looked at me again and said “You dun ready or not. I just have to give in, even though she was not accommodating.
It wasn’t painful, am used to taking injections a lot, I even prefer it to taking pills. That day I was called home for something important, it was getting late already and I had to take the only available vehicle, well I remembered what my mum told me and I was expecting to start misbehaving but nothing happened, just some pain on the arm. When I got home she noticed and ask why my arm looks stiff, well I told her I took the vaccine and her response was, "Sha don't knock my room when you start to display." Well, it should better be a joke cause I laughed it off also.
Vaccines are good, they don't turn people into vampires, monsters or zombies, at least am not one, they don't make people misbehave as well. This country has enough of those already, not the usual zombies you know though. So if they say another is coming, so far it's for our good and it's been approved, be sure to see me there as well, and be sure to see me here telling my story again.
