Greetings and welcome to ML-Blog. It has been a wonderful weekend filled with fun, and a little touch of sadness. But, anyone who truly knows me will understand I have one motor "we don't complain, we only thank God". Anyway, today marks the beginning of another edition of the #hivelearner weekly prompt. This edition presents the opportunity to discuss pollution in our environments and how it can be controlled.
Pollution
Our environment is naturally pure without the introduction of harmful substances. When these harmful substances which come in diverse forms get introduced into the environment, it affects the naturally pure gas of the environment and makes its content poisonous to living things, be it animals or humans.
In our society or environment of today, there are many sources of pollution. To mention, I will do so considering the environment in that I have found myself. In this area of the world, most environmental pollution comes as a result of human recklessness. For the record, it is worth noting that this article generalizes its discussion of pollution without having to streamline to a particular source of pollution.
In Nigeria today, there are different pollutants that endanger our environment. A few of these pollution comes from gas flaring, carbon emission from car exhausts, and generator exhaust as well as pollution from inappropriate disposal of refuge. These three are chosen because they are the major environmental pollution seen in most areas of the world.
Gas flaring and Engine Exhaust Pollution
Gas flaring is associated with the presence of oil companies and their process of oil exploration. The excess gas from the extraction process is burned into the air. Not only that this is an economic waste, but it also poses a great threat health-wise due to the emission of carbon in the air. The continued practice of gas flaring exposes us to the danger of global warming (heating of earth's planet system which can cause temperature change).
Over a period of five years, Nigeria has flared into the atmosphere a total of 1,252.26 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. This is in accordance with the NNPC monthly oil and gas reports. Gas flaring also poses the threats of acidic rain and other environmental pollutants.
In addition, Engine exhausts does a similar thing just as gas flaring. The high rate of tokunbo cars and generators also contributes to excessive gas-burning which clouds our environments which carbon. Coupled with the fact that humans exhale carbon, the introduction of all these other carbons makes it excessive in our environment and poses life-threatening dangers.
Inappropriate Waste Disposal
When it comes to disposing of waste, we are very bad at it in this area of the world. This is the major cause of Malaria transmitted by mosquitoes bred by our wrongful waste disposal system. The environment we find ourselves in today looks so dirty and unkempt as well as smelly. These numerous illnesses associated with improper waste disposal can be avoided if only we adopt the proper way of disposing of waste.
One of the best options to the solution of waste disposal is by instilling the triple R habit which is waste reduction, reusing and recycling. This will save us the trouble of a dirty environment and reduce the rate of illnesses among the earth's inhabitants.
In the area of Gas flaring, these gases can be channeled to our everyday use or be used for power production or powering gas plants in industries
