Truly, Hive has been serving as a virtual learning ground for many who have stayed and understood what Hive entails. It's painful when I try to encourage others to come onboard, and they provide flimsy excuses. Sometimes, I perceive those excuses as them being lazy, although some have valid reasons which I understand and respect.
When addressing the question of onboarding others, I have encountered numerous individuals who possess the qualities necessary to thrive on the Hive blockchain and enjoy the benefits it offers. Upon discovering the advantages of Hive, I recognized several people in my circle who needed assistance. Acknowledging their intelligence and potential to excel in this ecosystem, I began extolling the virtues of Hive to them like a psalm.
Just few I can remember their usernames:
@joe-emmy
@gentle27
@jonezz
@israelight06
@paschal1 among others.
I have a friend who seems to constantly face financial problems. He frequently approaches me with requests for financial help, ranging from 5,000 Naira to 1,000 Naira and airtime top-ups. Knowing he is talented, I realized that Hive is a platform where he could truly shine. I introduced him to the possibilities of Hive, doing my best to persuade him to join.
I advised him to create an introductory post, which he did. I requested that he send it to me for review and guidance on where to publish it. However, he proceeded to publish the post in the wrong community without notifying me. It was only when he didn't receive the expected response that he returned seeking guidance.
Apart from him, I've onboarded many others, but dedication and patience seem to be what they all lack. I continue to preach to them whenever we chat. It saddens me when these individuals approach me for minor financial assistance, which they could easily earn through a side hustle. Unfortunately, they are unwilling to write, learn, engage, or connect with others. They feel that they don't have all the time to mellow and do these things.
Their stories often lead me to conclude that they are lazy and prefer to ask for fish rather than learn to fish. I continue to hope that one day these friends I have onboarded and others I will onboard would show true commitments to improving their writing skills rather than focusing solely on monetary gain. I believe that this mindset is essential for growth on the Hive blockchain.
I am aware that resource credits are often a barrier for newcomers. In some cases, I had to delegate 50HP to them just to see if they would make an effort to publish. If they did, I had plans to delegate more. However, after all the delegations, their activity remained stagnant, no post, nothing at all. Many of them haven't visited their accounts, which is disheartening. Some only get motivated to visit their accounts after persistent encouragement from me. Nevertheless, I remain committed to talking to them, urging them to become more engaged, as I continue to onboard more people.
The fact that my friend didn't keep this opportunity from me makes me feel that I haven't shown enough appreciation. Although I haven't done much for him yet, I still have plans to do more. The only benefit he has received from my earnings was $10 that was around 8,000 Naira then. I decided to withdraw that amount and send it to him to recharge his phone.
In one of the contests where we were asked to write about an unmet goal and how we planned to achieve it in the remaining four months, getting a laptop and learning a skill were among my goals. @shawnnft suggested that I purchase a laptop and explore self-learning with free online resources. I decided to withdraw my earnings from my account to do so. In the end, I added some funds to purchase a fairly used laptop for 175,000 Naira ($191) and with the remaining balance, I celebrated with my family and friends by buying drinks and snacks for them.
