When we talk of civilization progress, there are aspects that without being told should be profoundly grateful for and there are also others that leave a lingering sadness. If we take our minds back, we will remember how many of our fore father's generations died due to sickness like chicken pox, measles, stomach ache. My mum told me a story of how one of her brothers died due to stomachache.
It was one fateful morning, everyone was getting prepared to live for the farm and this his brother complained of stomach ache. According to her, her dad saw his complaint as a way of dodging from the work. Everyone left for the farm and the boy was left at home since he wasn't feeling strong only for them to see him lifeless on that spot when they returned. That story made me imagined if there was a healthcare, that boy would have been given medicine that would help him recover. It could be he has eaten bitter leave to make the stomach ache stop but to no avail.
With that incident, when I remember the progress made in healthcare it makes me proud of doctors, the height of human achievement, back then, many suffered and died from illnesses simply because there were no effective healthcare facilities to diagnose or treat them. Communities often relied on traditional method of getting healed, the simplest was the use of local herbs. While these methods offered some relief, it still can't be compared to the use of medicine(product of civilization)
When we talk of civilization, healthcare is one of the things I'm grateful about. It has touched my life personally, having faced countlessly sickness of malaria. In today's world, the knowledge that there are medical facilities equipped to diagnose illness and provide effective treatments is something everyone is grateful for because this has saved countless lives and continues to do so.
However, as with any aspect of progress, there is often a shadow lurking behind, trying to make something imperfect. In this case, it is pollution. Industrialization and urbanization, while moving society forward, have also tainted the air we breathe. The very act of civilization has contributed to environmental degradation, which, in turn, affects human health. The air we inhale is contaminated with pollutants, and this is a sad consequence of civilization.
Pollution has far-reaching effects on lives. It is a daily reminder that our actions can have dire consequences for the environment and our well-being. It's a reminder that we must strive for balance and sustainability to ensure the health of our planet and ourselves.
Learning to live with the gratitude and sadness is a delicate dance. While I'm grateful for the blessings that come with a modern healthcare, making living easy and saving lives. When talking about civilization, we are aware of the changes pollution causes in different aspects of human existence. While I may not really say stopping air pollution is ever possible in all the countries. When the effort invested in ending air, water and land pollution is not effective, it leads to humans living in hazardous and unfriendly eco system. The scorching sun today is one of the problems deforestation can cause.
Personally, I will say civilization's progress is a delicate journey in different aspects. While we are grateful for what civilization has brought on our parts, like this healthcare, the troubles it comes with isn't something that can be looked at merely. We all know how pollution can be harmful to human and it's something that saddens the heart
