With or without a partner, I do not joke with my private space because in there I am allowed to admire, crave, detest, explore, like, love, strategize, think and even make silly mistakes. Those are the very little things that make me human, those attitudes, characteristics, errors, imperfections and missteps. And I'm not going to settle down for anything that takes that away from me. Never.
As humans, our minds selfishly wander even when we least expect it. Does that make us terrible beings? No, not in the least of ways. However, whenever we experience this wandering what keeps us calm is the knowledge that it is a secret within us that no one knows. If I happen to find out that I am with a mind reader, all hell will break loose. I mean, it's like being stripped naked in public with no hideout in sight. What could be worse?
I stumbled upon a cleric's thoughts a while back. This man titled it "Avoid the second look." He claimed that the moment we see an attractive object for the first time, our brain reacts to it. For example, if a guy sees a gorgeously looking lady for the first time, his brain acknowledges the beautiful being in front of him and reacts instantly to it. This is normal and it poses no threat in that instance.
Problems may arise though if the man decides to take a second glance at the beautiful lady. At that point, it's no longer instinctive, it's deliberate. Thoughts about the wonderful things the man could do with the woman flood the mind. If the woman is a rare beauty, the man starts gushing and will likely lose concentration on whatever he is doing. His hormones get to work as he becomes edgy, nervous and sweaty. He had just seen a beautiful thing he couldn't keep his eyes off. That is dangerous!
So, the cleric's advice is simple: once you see that beautiful lady and your mind acknowledges it, don't take a second glance. In five seconds or so, your first glance of her will dissipate and you'll forget what she looks like. With that, your daily routine continues undisturbed. But how does this relate to the topic of discussion, anyway?
Imagine taking a walk on a good afternoon, your dangerous mind-reading monster of a girlfriend by your side, only to see a beautiful lady walk right across. What I discussed in paragraph 3 will most likely happen, with the brain acknowledging the beautiful lady. Unfortunately, as your brain reacts, so also does the brain of the mind-reading girlfriend who sees and knows every single thought that just crossed your mind. That is trouble.
So, if I get to know at a later time that I've been dating a mind reader, I will tender my sincere apologies to her, end that relationship immediately and move far away from her. I will apologize to her because it means she knows about those times when I conceived bad thoughts toward her. After all, she got on my nerves. It means she knows about and can judge me based on the words I never said. And, trust me, the world will be a lot messier if we are getting judged based on our thoughts.
In conclusion, if I come across a mind reader, I won't even think twice about it. Even though their ability may be useful in keeping one's mind under control, having them around is a lot more detrimental than beneficial. Without even knowing it they'll become a human prison, caging minds and posing problems. There is no way in a thousand hells I'm dating a mind reader.
