I can't remember when I became a nocturnal human girl but I think it was around the time I fell in love with Korean dramas and I've been obsessed with them and the length of their drama series. You'd be surprised to know that I hate kdramas that are too short because I feel the longer the episodes are, the more interesting the drama gets.
And that is it, I could stay up all night for days to watch movies and I mean, Korean drama series. And that habit developed in my system that even when I'm not seeing a movie, I tend to find it hard to sleep at night.
Uhmm, actually if I'm not seeing a movie, it means I'm either chatting, reading or forcing myself to sleep. In any case, what I mostly do to stay awake when I feel sleepy and I don't want to sleep (wanting to cheat nature)... This is what I do...
Back then when I just started schooling at the university, I was introduced to drinking coffee to stay up at night during exam period so I could study without falling asleep. Well, that never worked for me but instead, it made me sleep even more soundly.
Then I was introduced to putting my legs in cold water to stay awake, hehe, it's so funny how this didn't make fall asleep and also made me fall sick... I think my skin is almost allergic to cold 🤣 I couldn't stay in the water for long because I felt all my inner organs getting frozen with cold from the water.
I developed my own way of staying awake when I have to study or work at night.... Tested and trusted
Since other methods couldn't work for me, I thought about what kept me awake when I don't have to study or work at night and I decided to use it for the times when I have to study and that is...
Take time out to watch an episode of an ongoing drama...
Yeah, you heard me right! 😂 While studying at night and I feel sleepy, I tune in to any kdrama I've been seeing but yet to finish it or a new one to see. That act alone sends sleep far away from me for sometime and I go back to my studies... It's silly but it's amazing how it works for me.
My friends would be like "you're watching film when you're supposed to be reading?" with their sleepy voice, what they don't know is that I'm trying to drive away sleep from my eyes and it works like magic.
But when that doesn't work sometime or when nature is acting stronger... I take a walk around my room for sometime.
Another weird method but what to do when they popular methods don't work for you. If I can't fight the sleep, I walk around my room and that is when I'll see what I didn't do during the day and I'll get it done, the sleep will go away for sometime again.
This one actually stress me out by the time I get back to sit down to continue what I have to do but it works to an extent.
Another weird method I do is... Eating
I know you're looking at me with a confused face but that's true, this is one of the reasons I like having food stuffs in my room so I don't have to start looking for what to eat at that late time. My favourite go-to meal during that late night is my cornflakes with lots of milk or cold tea with biscuits 😁 I'll be bouncing with my books like sleep never happened after that method.
The latest method I started recently is being active with my phone, either engaging on Hive or watching Tiktok and YouTube videos 😅 it works too for me but in the morning, I realize that my battery is down and my data is asking me to recharge 🥲
But in the end, I sleep off when it's dawn and wake up late in the day so I guess nature always win no matter how hard I try to cheat it.
