Let's be honest about this matter, even before the era of social media monetization, there were fake news, controversial posts or contents and bothersome clickbaits. We can say it only got worse in this era as people want to make money no matter what that they fail to think before act.
Almost any kind of content trends once it gets some kind of views from special influencers and because there are money benefits, people want to share contents not minding the dangers it might pose to their fans or viewers. It's no wonder I always tend to appreciate genuine ones.
There are social media influencers who are earning big for sharing really good contents that you can't say are posing threat to those following them, instead they is providing insights and educational purposes to the public or promoting videos to create laughing moments (comedy).
Some social media influencers are actually out there for the purpose of sharing all the wrong contents, from fake news to controversial topics to major clickbaits that would definitely make us want to regret the monetization of social media that have began for a while now but then, no!
These wrong uses of the monetization era isn't enough reason to tag it as the worse thing that has ever happened to social media. Instead, I'll say it is still the best thing and yes, for the major fact that it is providing means of livelihood for people. Gone are the days of wasting time online.
I've witness people go from being broke to having enough to sort their bills and are still growing, all thanks to social media and the chance for them to showcase their talents and skills and get paid for it. In everything, there is always going to be the good and the bad side of it so that's normal.
Even without the social media, fake news travel although not as fast. What can be done is what I think social media like Tiktok is trying to do, regularizing the kind of contents their users share to the public. I read somewhere that they ban influencers when they sense wrong contents.
If more education or awareness would be given to those who are making waves on social media or are about to get into the business, I believe we would have less of these issues. One thing is clear, we can't think of removing the monetization from social media. Many lives now depend on it.
Social media have proven to be a place to earn, showcase talents and skills, spend time and feel good, find out what's happening around and learning new hacks and tips daily. Monetizing it was has been the better way to go, amidst the downsides to it which can be controlled if we try.
I'm even surprised that there are more ways than before to earn using your social media accounts, and there are becoming more people relying on these social networks to find information, learn new things and do researches. Let's not overlook these benefits because of the downside, the advantages/benefits supercedes the downsides.
