For us in my beloved country Nigeria, we are already used to power outage and it doesn't have much impact on our daily lives again because it's a daily dose for us, which had lead lots of people to derive other means for generating electricity to their homes and offices.
Even if there is electricity supply in a particular area for instance for like 10 hours at a stretch, everyone within the area will start wondering what type of jack pot or charm did that area use to have that kind of supply. So I can say power outage is like a constant thing one must experience daily here in my country.
Although there might be exceptions in some areas where they experience constant supply, some areas have an average supply while some areas are in total blackout, so the area where one lives also determines the supply.
In my area, the supply of electricity is relatively okay now, at least we do have daily supply even though it's might not be stable but there will always be a daily supply. Unlike before when the supply is extremely worst, we might have electricity supply once in a week which won't be up to 3hours, that time was very terrible for everybody in the area.
My worst experience of power outage was when my area had Transformer problem a couple of years ago. The capacity of the transformer generating electricity supply for my area was too small because of the rapid development that's happening in my area.
So the expansion of the community kept adding much load on the transformer which is above it's capacity. Along the line, the engineer in charge of the transformer kept fusing the circuit literally everyday till the transformer pack up one night.
My area was in total blackout for good six months, it was an experience I won't pray to have again in my life, It's as if we were living in a dungeon. I hated almost everything about life at that period because we were unable to use our gadgets effectively and all our electronics were typically on holiday.
Some people do take their gadgets to work during working days to charge, some depend on their generators to charge their gadgets at night while some people like me go everywhere with my charger, I charge anywhere I have the opportunity. I hated the period, I can say it's the worst moment of my life.
That time was stressful and boring for everyone because myself and family then depend on a radio set that's been powered by dry cell battery at night and we are also very careful on how we use our phones to avoid having low batteries. Everything was just somehow during that period of the blackout.
But heaven smiles on my area when we received an assistant from a foreign agency who agreed to help the community in the purchase of new transformer of high capacity if the community can be united to pay half of the expenses. It was a miracle for all of us, because we had lost hope on electricity supply for that year.
Committees was quickly set up for the task, it wasn't an easy task but on the long run the committees were able to achieve their aims. Each houses in the area later contributed certain amount and the committees started the processes and after six months of been in total blackout electricity supply was restored. Everyone was elated the day we saw electricity supply in our various homes, it was as if huge burden was taken from each and everyone of us.
