The phrase "I'm sorry" is really a powerful word that can help resolve conflict. To be apologetic doesn't make one lose value or weak, it shows how responsible one can be for his or her actions. I've come across several kinds of people, those that always apologize when they are wrong or not and those that are adamant who are always right.
I know of a man in my neighborhood, who finds it very easy to say sorry whether he is wrong or right, he always accept the blame so as to calm a raging storm. This man is so down to earth that he doesn't feel indifferent whenever there is an argument, later on if people now know the truth about an issue, they will be feeling guilty to approach him so as to ask for forgiveness.
I also had a friend a long time ago, who is very stubborn, she finds it very difficult to say sorry, this friend of mine is so hard hearted to the extent that she doesn't see anything wrong in her actions. And when you point out her fault, instead of her to admit her mistakes she prefers to walk away without altering a word. But she finds joy in accepting apologizes from others when they are at fault, so because of her character I had to distance myself from her cause she doesn't yield to corrections.
I learnt the phrase "I'm sorry" from my Mom, ohhhh Mom do say the phrase very often, whenever she sensed she might be at fault, she will quickly say sorry so that you won't be offended. Mom respect everybody either young or old, so she can apologize to anyone so far she's at fault. Her ideology is that, been sorry doesn't add or subtract from your age, so it doesn't cost you anything to say it.
Therefore, I find it very convenient to humbly apologize whenever I'm wrong. To me saying sorry means you have acknowledged your faults and you want to make amends.
Whenever someone points out my fault, I immediately apologize and I will make sure never to repeat the said mistake again. But in a situation whereby, someone is accusing me wrongly, I will never take the blame even if the issue will lead to an uproar I don't care.
I vividly remember after my Secondary school, I worked in a private primary school before I could gain admission to the university. So I taught Basic 5 that time, there was a pupil in my class who find it so easy to lie and her parents are the busy type who doesn't have time for their kids, so they left her in the care of nanny. This girl lied against me that I collected her lunch money from her and she was unable to eat for lunch in school. The nanny angrily call the school propietor to report me for an offense I didn't commit and she also followed the girl to school the following day.
I was summoned by the headmistress to a meeting with the school management, the nanny and the girl. I was surprised when I heard the accusation, I frankly told them that I didn't collect any money from the girl. The headmistress and the proprietor insisted that I should apologize to the nanny so that the issue won't escalate but I refused, I told them I won't say any sorry because I didn't commit the crime, the school threatened that they will terminate my appointment and I told them to go ahead.
After further investigations by the school management, they got to know from the girl's friends that she was lying against me, the girl's parents was called to the school and the management handled them a letter of withdrawal. The school management also did a public apology to me in the presence of the pupils and praised me for standing my ground and didn't bow to their pressure.
Since then, I'm always careful of how I deal with people either young or old. So whenever I wrong anyone I immediately apologize so that the person won't have grudges against me. But when I know I didn't do anything wrong, I will stood my ground and will never apologize.
