School is an institution where teaching and learning takes place. It is an important part of our lives that mustn't be joke with, although been educated doesn't mean one will be successful or the most richest in life automatically, but it can be one of the channels for ones upliftment through what you've learnt and the connections of friends you've built. Also it helps to instill values in us and also to become a better person in the society.
During my primary school, I attended a missionary private school owned by a Church in which my Mom was one of the teachers. So I enjoyed a lot of benefits from been a teacher's daughter and I also shouldered lots of responsibilities at the school.
So after my primary school, I thought I would continue my secondary school at the same school cause the school had a secondary session. But my Dad didn't allowed that, he enrolled me in a far away Public school which I can termed as a semi - government school.
Because the school is been run by both the Catholic mission and as well as the government, so the school fees was at a subsidized rate then and even till now.
Only God knows how the government bargained with the Catholic mission on the school, cause it's a Public school with lots of elements of Catholic doctrines.
At first, I hated the school cause it's far away from my house in which I had to take taxi to school. Also, no single pupil from my primary school choose the school at all, so I was all alone in my new school and I have to adjust to the new environment which comprises of large numbers of classrooms and big surroundings. Later I discovered that almost half of my classmates are also from various private primary school, so we bonded cause we had almost everything in common.
But on the long run, I adjusted to my new school and I enjoyed my 6 years of schooling there. I was lucky to be tutored by one of the best teachers, we had more than enough teachers and no time for play at all but only at leisure time. The teachers did their best for us and I really appreciated their efforts, most especially my beloved Chemistry teacher, she was indeed a great mother to me.
Despite been a Public school, schooling in my secondary school benefitted me in a lot of ways:
I learnt how to make proper use of the high ways cause from home to my school, I would pass through the major highways in my state.
I learnt how to be smart in all I do, like walking and crossing smartly on the highways and keeping my transport fare safe. So schooling in the school for 6 years, I never misplaced my transport fare because if it got missing I'm in a big trouble.
I learnt how to seek for help among my peers and from the teachers. No one make jest or bully others cause they don't know a thing, this singular act had helped me a lot till now. I'm not always afraid to ask for help
I learnt neatness and punctuality; the next building to my school is the state ministry of education, so we dare not dress shabbily to school or come late. Once you are late or dresses anyhow and the ministry team in charge of schools get hold of you, both the students and your parents have case to answer with ministry of education. So the location of my school instill fear and discipline in us
I also benefitted early closing hours; my school runs from 7am - 2pm while class starts by 8am. Closing early from school allows me to go home and have a nap before going for evening lesson which helps my academic performance. My parents enrolled me in an evening lesson where I had to met and learn with students from other schools this helped me a lot
Although, I benefitted alot from my school but I would like to change my school's attitude to sports. Sporting activities was blossoming in my school in my first 3 years in which some of my mates represented my state in track and field events and also basketball, I've started developing interest in volleyball before everything just die down and no sporting events again till I graduated. So I want extra curriculum activities to bounce back to discover new talents. And also to reduce the way teachers flogs students in public schools.
