If your brain is sharp and your attitude is shoddy your life may be in shambles.
The above statement was typical of one of my bosses. He often spoke of the thin line between good character and literacy. Unfortunately, many educated people do not have enough character to influence their world.
An African proverb says:
Attitude is like smoke, it either scents or smells.
Everyone man must build a life of good character when educated or otherwise. The character an individual display is a reflection of the home where he or she hails from. This is why one does not learn everything from the four walls of the classroom. We should try our best to mold a life that positively impacts. Without good character, no matter your level of education, one may not go far in life, marriage, career and so on.
Let's take a look at some of the outcome of bad character on individual's life journey.
Bad Character Smells Real Bad
Building Meaningful Relationship: It may take someone with bad character a while lifetime trying to build a relationship. This is why so many people today find.it difficult to build a beautiful relationship with their partners even with their level of education. For relationship to weather the storms of life, character is one great tool that can help to a large extent but when character is missing, it becomes very difficult. For relationship to last a life time, good character is a pre-requisite.
Lacking Moral Compass: people who lack good chara yes may not have a sense to juxtapose between right and wrong, making them to make unethical decisions. As such, they could involve themselves in harmful behaviour. This is why people who come from good homes consider their family heritage and upbringing before they take any action.
Integrity: Lack of good character can make a person display acts like dishonesty, manipulation, deceit, unfaithfulness and so on, making it difficult for others to rely on them. On the other hand, good character builds trust and dependability.
Retarded Personal Growth: Self-discipline, perseverance and accountability are essential for growth without these traits, individuals may struggle through live and may not be able to reach their full potential.
Legal Consequences: There was a man who was educated, he worked as a court clerk. Through his years of experience in the legal system, he learned how to handle property cases and all that has to do with it.
Before you knew it, he opened a law chambers where he deals with property. Under a period of a decade, he has acquired a lot of property for people, home and abroad.
In the midst of this illegality called impersonation and pretence, he started to sleep with other men's wives. Later on, he was arrested to be a false lawyer and now he is serving a jail term. This story becomes sacrosanct because many educated people have have displayed such character and have gone scot-free forgetting that there are many days for the thief, one day for the owner.
Corruption: It is sad to know that the highest level.of corruption going on in our country is been perpetuated by the educated. Their bad character negatively influences society, thereby, making others learn from their corrupts practices.
