Let’s imagine this together
You wake up one morning, rub your sleepy eyes, and boom an email notification pops up on your phone. It reads: “Congratulations! You’ve been selected to learn ANY skill of your choice in 30 days. All the tools, mentors, and resources you need will be provided absolutely free.”
Now tell me, who wouldn’t sit up straight and start thinking seriously?
Because in a world where time, money, and access are often the greatest obstacles to growth, being handed a chance like this is nothing short of magical. And me? I already know exactly what I’d choose.
I would learn public speaking
Not coding. Not forex. Not even photography
I know those are fancy and marketable skills and they definitely pay well. But public speaking is one skill that sits silently behind almost every success story, yet most people overlook it because it sounds “too simple.” I see it as a superpower.
You see, I’ve had moments where my ideas were brighter than the sun, but my voice shook like a leaf in harmattan. I’ve watched people with half baked ideas speak so confidently that they won everyone over. Meanwhile, I stood there, tongue tied, heart racing, brain frozen. Not because I lacked intelligence, but because I lacked the courage and structure to communicate it effectively.
If given a full month with access to coaches, mock stages, recorded feedback, and maybe even a live TEDx-style experience. I believe I could crush that fear. I would learn how to command attention, structure my thoughts, read a room, and speak with clarity and impact. No filler words. No shaky knees. Just my voice, finally working for me.
Now, why do I think it would be easy enough to master in a month?
Because public speaking isn’t rocket science, it’s mostly about mindset, practice, and exposure. I’ve seen people go from trembling to triumphant after just a few weeks of consistent speaking and feedback. And with the right support, I believe I could too.
More than just “learning to speak,” I’d be unlocking doors. Imagine pitching an idea and getting instant investors. Or leading a team and inspiring them with just your words. Or telling your story, and someone out there feels seen, heard, and changed forever.
That’s the kind of skill that keeps on giving
So, if ever that once in a lifetime email lands in my inbox, you won’t find me running for complex skills I can’t even pronounce. I’ll be on a small stage somewhere, mic in hand, learning how to turn silence into applause.
And when I’m done, I won’t just speak well,
I’ll live louder.
