I hope you’re enjoying your day. This edition of this weeks featured contest is a really interesting topic that’s not given much attention in my part of the world.
Lets talk about mental health. In my part of the world, most people don’t really care about mental health. Everyone is too busy with whatever they are doing to make ends meet they forget about their mental health. Maybe this is because of the system. People are really struggling they barely have time to take care of themselves. What to even eat is a problem so no one wants to waste their money to see a therapist when they’re not okay.
While the old are struggling to fend for themselves and their families, half of the youth is busy following trends, getting the latest outfits, going to the latest club or wherever and the other half, only God knows what they’re up to.
I can guarantee you that about 90% of the population is struggling mentally but most people prefer to keep it to themselves because they can’t seem to trust anyone. Most of our parents are also old fashioned and barely know or understand how things work in this era. I don’t think our ancestors used to talk about mental health with their kids and that’s the same way most parents are today. Sigh. Who would you talk to when you feel no one understands how you feel?
Being an over-thinker as I am, I just can’t help it some of the time. I tend to overthink the little stuff that don’t really matter to others and that seems to do me no good. Upon realising that, I decided to stop putting myself through all this hard time and find other productive stuff to do with my time for the sake of my mental health.
At this stage in my life, my mental health has come to be my top most priority because if my mental health is bad, I’m also bad. Naturally, I’m depressed 5 days a week. Lol
How Do I Stay Mentally Sound?
Step out a bit
One thing I’ve come to realise is that being indoors always is bad for your mental health. I could stay indoors for days and no one would even know I’m around but little did I know I was hurting myself. Being indoors alone can lead to overthinking which could lead to depression. And if you didn’t know, depression is very bad for you. So one way to prevent yourself from being depressed is to step out and let the sun hit you. Even if you don’t have anywhere to go just take a stroll and you’ll be fine.
Talk to someone
Sometimes, life gets overwhelming you feel youre being left behind. Its okay to feel that way and I know you would say people can’t be trusted in todays world but I want you to know that there are good people out there. Find your person and talk to them. Talk to someone about how you feel. A problem shared is half solved so let someone know how you feel. I always make sure to let someone know what I’m feeling when I’m feeling it because when my overthinking get in, it’s over for me.
Avoid overthinking
Me telling you to avoid overthinking is sort of dramatic but try to avoid it. Sometimes we just can’t help but over think stuff. Surprisingly most of these stuff can’t be controlled. Why bother about something you can’t do anything about? Just let everything play out in its right time. So an advice to myself and to you is to stop overthinking.
Life gets hard for us all sometimes and that doesn’t mean we should stop pushing. I know there’s a lot out there for you and so its nlt time to give up just yet. Tale care of your mental health and reach for the sky.
I hope you enjoyed reading this. Thank you.
