Hello guys,
It’s a pleasure to be a part of the 3rd edition of this week’s contest. I didn’t really think I would be writing this but I just thought, what’s the harm writing?
Our topic for discussion;
Rural Or Urban
What kind of area do you live? Is it in the villages or in the city? If you had the chance would you change it? Why?
Most people do not believe me when I tell them I have lived all my life in an urban area. It was all fun at first until I went to the university. My university is in a rural area. There , I am faced with real life challenges and changes in the way of life. I happened to visit a typical village with no electricity for my field program in second year.
Man, your girl almost run home but guess what? I didn’t. I came to appreciate what love actually is.

Having lived in an urban area for so long, here are a few things I have come to realize.
It’s busy out there.
In the city where I live, the whole place is choked . The streets on Monday mornings and evenings is an eye-saw. Traffic is hectic as everyone is in a rush to get home after the days work. This is the first thing I hate about Urban areas.
In my university and also in the village I visited in second year, I realized how things were different. There was not even a bit of traffic because they were small communities and the population wasn’t large because everyone is migrating to the urbane areas in search for greener pastures. I actually enjoy the fact that I get to move about easy and very fast because there’s no traffic
Noise pollution
In my city, noise is the new music to our ears and nothing seems to be done about it so it has come to be a way of life. Noise from car horns, vendors on the sides of the streets, people playing music by the roadside and a whole lot. There’s not a single iota of peace in my city.
In the rural areas, there’s no much peace so actually feel the life in you. I have been to other cities and seen how things are different. Some cities are very peaceful but my city is a whole story for another day.
Cost of living
The cost of living in Urban areas is generally high. With every passing day the prices of goods increase and people are left with no choice other than buying them as they are being sold. Traders or vendors even go to the extend of inflating prices just for their own gain. Most especially foodstuffs. The cost of cooking a home made meal is way expensive as compared to instant meals in urban areas.
If you have stayed in a village before I bet you can attest to the fact that home cooked meals are the main deal in rural areas and you don’t need to spend a lot of money on that. Foodstuffs are cheaper and fresher in rural areas.
Due to this difference, records show that people in rural areas live longer than those in urban areas because most people in urban areas don’t get to have a proper meal.
What we eat makes us.
Education
Education is very important in our lives in the modern era. Urban areas provide quality education needed for one’s development whereas rural ears lack that.
I have come to realize that having quality education in rural areas is not totally impossible but the mentality of the people there makes it a big problem to tackle.
The list goes on and on. There’s no perfection in both the urban and rural areas as we all know. So, if I am to decide where to live for my peace I would love to stay in a rural area and enjoy nature and what the earth has to offer me. But, if I am to decide where to live based on education, personal development and greener pastures I would most likely go for the urban area.
This is my take on the issue at hand.
I hope you enjoyed reading this. Thank you
