I don't think there's a country with a perfect government. There's always an aspect that isn't looked into properly before making one law or another. This week in the hive learners community, we are discussing banned and unban things in our various countries. Here in Nigeria, my country, without thinking deeper into what I would love to lift a ban on and allow people to use it freely if I had the power, is cryptocurrency.

In my country, there are long lists of banned items, and the funny thing is that our government approaches this wrongly; they will leave the ones that are supposed to be banned and keep banning things that will make the country better. Imagine banning foreign rice importation as if we have the capacity to produce enough quantities for the masses. Some of the government decisions have only made us keep suffering. Truth be told, we are a blessed country with natural resources that could make society live better, but our government has been the greatest challenge we have. It's all about embezzling money, looting from any given opportunity, and getting ridiculous loans every now and then. The cycle keeps rotating, making the economy even worse than it was. No wonder every time, DIC and Harry are leaving the country at any available opportunity, and I wouldn't blame anyone who is in quest for a greener pasture.
Imagine banning cryptocurrencies that made a lot of youth self-employed? Because of their selfish reasons. The rate of unemployment in the country is nothing to write home about, so when an opportunity like crypto came, I expected our government to embrace it as it would lower the unemployment rate amongst our youth and promote our economy, but no, the reverse was the case. Many people then, including my cousin, lost their money gotten through crypto in the bank as they frozen his account. For some people, crypto was their only source of income, but our government put an end to it, and people's money was on hold. There were no transactions of any kind until months later, when we found our way again through P2P.
The world is envolving, and I would love to see when I can buy food stuff with crypto. I would love to witness that government that would say yes to crypto and get it legalised. If this is done someday, then I will have positive hope in the economy of my country again.
One of the reasons why the majority of our youth haven't gotten into stealing and other evils is because of this same crypto, which they engaged in, so lifting a ban on crypto would be something great for my country, and that is something I will do if I have the power.
The one thing I would ban with immediate effect is cigarettes. Banning cigarettes is good because of the health challenges it causes smokers. How can people be inhaling smoke into their system? Putting their lungs and livers at risk is disheartening, and it's unfortunate that the government of my country hasn't seen the reason to ban this item. There are other useless things that are allowed in my country and I really wish to have this power to ban and unban things accordingly.
All in all, I believe that if crypto is legalised, it will give society more opportunity to make wealth and also promote the disruption of the economy caused by inflation and mismanagement of funds.
This is my response to the #hivelearners contest on the topic titled "Un-ban".
