Both movies, songs, and paintings are all works of art. I also believe that every artist should have a deeper thought or feeling he or she wants to express through art before crafting his work or acting. Take, for instance, an object (artwork) that does not symbolize anything at all; can we call that art? This is to say that arts always have meaning behind it, but maybe not everyone can see the hidden message embedded inside an artwork.
I wouldn't also overlook the fact that some movies are without tangible meaning but time wasters. As much as most of these artwork is crafted for entertainment or fun, there should be value attached to it to make more meaning. I remember watching a movie with many episodes the other time, trying to get value from the story, but the more I watch, the more I get angry with the whole expressions. I got to episode 9,yet, I couldn't say that this is what I have learned so far from the movie but rather got hard on myself for burning my precious time on things without value. If I was at least entertained, it becomes a different thing, but no value at all was gained. Maybe another person can watch the same movie and see the meaning or value embedded in it? Whatever, it makes more sense to add meaning to art work. Naturally, it attracts more viewers to the artist's page if it's movies, andthe same applies to objects displaying the meaning of the arts.
Let's talk about songs as an aspect of art. As much as I love songs, I love it more also when a song provokes thoughts within me, when it gives me a kind of connection with my spirit, and when I can express my emotions through the songs. Only meaningful songs can do this; however, some persons don't care if there's a value to be gotten or not as long as they are entertained through the catchy beats.
We are individuals with different personalities, and we perceive things differently, having our likes and dislikes, and that's why some persons can read a meaning in an artwork and others could see nothing in the same artwork. However, I can only acknowledge the good of an art when there's something to gain from it. Art should go beyond entertainment, pleasures, or fun. Even an object artwork does send messages when you look deeply into it. I have seen a beautiful artwork of a mom with her child expressing how she cares for that child. At a glance, I read meaning into the artwork and got value. I have also seen a family artwork demonstrating the role of the man and that of the woman as they walk along with their children. There are works that usually express aesthetics that are quite entertaining and can beautify our homes or offices too, but in all, I feel that art should have meaning behind it.
