I think nowhere in the world is absolutely free from crime, only that the rate of crime varies from one area to another.

Take, for instance, my country, Nigeria, where the economy has been harsh for a long time and everyone is struggling to survive. On the part of some jobless Nigerian youths, they tend to engage in some criminal activities like kidnapping, robbery, and taking people's properties and reselling them to make money. Truly, our economy is not friendly, but that doesn't justify their evil act in any way. One funny fact that I got to know about theives and robbers is that they always come up with smart moves which they apply when stealing valuables from people to avoid getting caught by security personnels , so if they can be smart enough to avoid being caught, why can't they apply the same wisdom and make their lives useful?
Talking about the neighborhood in which I reside, I can say that it's a calm one. There isn't much crime reported in the area, even though there are some unemployed youths who patrol the environment every now and then. A criminal activity that I experienced in this vicinity was people stealing what didn't belong to them—building materials, to be specific.
While my family house was still under construction, the workers made some complaints about coming to work only to discover that some of the materials were incomplete. They found out that thieves usually jump over the fence and steal some materials like cement, iron, tiles, etc. Knowing how much these materials are expensive, it was annoying to experience that, but we found a way to complete the building as fast as possible and packed in. Even to date, there are still cases of robbers stealing people's valuables, especially at night, including building materials in some ongoing projects.
Another crime that I got to know occurs at certain times of the year is the night hunt by the idol worshippers, who go around at night looking for heads to use for rituals. This particular act doesn't take place exactly in my vicinity, but in a close neighboring one. My friends who reside in such areas told me that they are usually timed on when they are supposed to be out and when they are meant to be indoors. For instance, if the idol worshippers plan to start hunting by 9 p.m., the people leaving the area are made aware, and so from 8:30 p.m. on, anyone who cherishes his or her life will definitely be indoors with his loved ones, and anyone who doesn't adhere will have himself to blame when he gets bundled by the tugs and used as a lamb for the sacrifice.
This particular sacrifice requires seven human heads, which will be killed for the rituals, and it doesn't matter if you reside in this community; anyone can be a victim, including people from my vicinity, if you accidentally find yourself around the areas in which the tugs are hunting for innocent souls. A foreigner was once killed there last year; it's a terrible crime around us here.
In summary, we all need to be vigilant, day or night, wherever we find ourselves. Being conscious of any suspicious movement in order to be on the safer side. After all, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
