Have you ever started a project before with well-thought-out plans and, half way into the project, encountered unforeseen circumstances that got your vision crumbling? You have envisioned how your future will look seeing that project flourishing; you have dreamt bigger and better; you have had high hopes knowing that you are working towards achieving financial freedom but met unfortunate situations beyond your control. Well, this is my current true-life experience at the moment.
I didn't know there would be a day I would talk about this until I saw this contest topic. I would have loved to share my win after working out things, but here we are. Human beings have needs and wants. The more we achieve dream one, we keep heading to dream two, dream three, and so on. No wonder the saying that human needs are insatiable. I have lived in Lagos State, Nigeria, for 8 years, and one of the greatest achievements I have achieved so far with my husband is securing a land property and building our own house in it. This was our first dream in order to escape the high cost of rent in the state, and I am grateful to have achieved that for over two and half years now.
We moved into dream two which is establishing a lucrative business aside salary job, that will help us pay bills at ease and give the kids a good life as well. We have had a business idea in the past years which is building a functional table water factory 🏭. While we were securing the land for our residential building, we put this business plan into consideration and thus our choice of location and land size. We commenced the factory project two years ago. We made plans for funds plus other areas we hoped to get more money. The factory building project kept going smoothly until we were done with the finishing touches. The building was set and some materials for water treatment gotten. All of a sudden, things started changing from good to bad. Bad news from left and right. This factory was specifically made for me to take charge instead of looking for jobs elsewhere. This will give me the chance to look after the kids but my dreams keep crumbling since building was set. I may not be too open here but the summary is that my husband later lost his job and we couldn't continue. Each time I open the factory, walk around the places, I shed tears. The money required to put things in place is still huge and nowhere to be found for now. Equipping my factory and seeing it functional is the most expensive thing I really need at the moment.
This will not only put smiles on my face but create job opportunities for workers in the factory. I understand that things don't usually go as planned sometimes, but I am not giving up on the dream; it's something I can still achieve in the future, hence the plans below on how-to accomplish it.,
- Savings: Of course I know that the money involved for this project is a big one, but little drops of water make an oven. I have started saving gradually for this half-way project to turn into reality. Whatever I save at the end of the day, I will add it to my option two here.
- partnership: a relative has already shown interest to partnership with us in the business, and I am seeking professional advice on how best to go about it.
I need it but can't afford it, but I see this dream actualising soon..
In conclusion, there are some things we may need but obviously can't afford at the time we want them; however, I believe that with adequate plans and determination, our dreams will turn into reality.
This is my response to the #hivelearners community contest on the topic "The Most Expensive Thing.
