I am a proud citizen of Nigeria. I love and support the growth of my country in any way I can. We all come from one country or the other, and I believe most of us have done something that can be considered patriotic, no matter how little or big it is. For the record, I have been casting votes since I was 18 years old, and this is one of the patriotic things I have done for my country. For the love I have for my country, showing my little support this way is what patriotism is all about.
Two weeks ago, I shared a post about the Nigerian presidential election that took place on the 25th of February, 2023 and how I participated actively before and during the election. I made a quick review of the three major candidates from the different political parties contesting for the post of the presidency. Well, the election has come and go and I have been asking myself several questions based on what happened in different polling units. Since I became an adult, this is one of the Nigerian election I have witnessed whereby youths and other noble men availed themselves with so much energy to exercise their civil rights. It baffled me seeing lots of Nigeria citizens who travelled from abroad back to Nigeria just to vote. Imagine the huge sacrifice, I also saw some people who travelled from the East to the western part of Nigeria (Lagos state) where I reside just because of this election. All these people made this sacrifice because of one single candidate whom most Nigerians believes he has all it takes to turn our ugly situations around. The man we hope can revive our dieing economy to some an extent!
Unfortunately, the election rigging was on the high side. It was so obvious that even the INEC could not defend the results. I watched lots of videos of what happened in different polling units and how APC party agents and fans were busy messing up with lots of ballot papers for LABOUR PARTY candidate which majority of Nigerians wants as the new Nigeria president. I wasn't surprised anyway because the government has been so corrupt for ages. The APC party has been on the seat for the past 8 years with lots of bad records. Many of us wanted a fair and free election but got disssapointed . Is free and fair election no longer possible in my country? INEC brought up several lies about bivas and how the network was bad and so much trash which made uploading of the result difficult. The election took place on the 25th of February but getting the result took them another 3 days, of course they did what they wanted within those days and came up with underserved result. The result shows that the same APC CANDIDATE won and trust me, lots of Nigerians aren't accepting the result. Did I tell you that many people who came to vote for labour party candidate in some polling units were denied access to vote? It was bad to that point , the APC party were desperate to remain in that seat!
Some youth planned for a protest but the candidate of our choice said everyone should remain calm for now. The case has been on the court. I really do not know what the outcome will look like. I have seen many Nigerians updating their watsapp status with this quote "if APC party should rule Nigeria again, I will leave the country", and the likes of it. However, I will keep my fingers crossed, pray for my dear country too for good. I wished the will of Nigerians were established in the election, I wished our vote counted... if wishes were horses!
Tommorow is another Governorship election in different states if all things being equal. Many people have been preaching to me to vote for continuity. Sincerely I am still skeptical about participating. Will my vote count this time? Won't they rig the election again? Does it worth spending my precious time over there? Just maybe I will give it a try again as a good citizen of her country.
In conclusion, it's always good to pay attention to the happenings in your country. By casting a vote , you are practically exercising patriotism for the growth of your country.
I appreciate your time on my blog ❤️
