Ethics and morals shouldn't be considered when making laws in a country, and I will give some reasons to back up my point.
Now, if you want to consider morals and ethics , what a Christian considers as good or bad, for a Muslim , it doesn't matter to him, so how are you going to balance it? How do you want to consider what everybody sees as right or wrong? For instance, if you come to my place, we do circumcision, and if you go to another place , they don't believe in it, so how do you balance such? It will become difficult , so those things shouldn't be considered while making law.
Laws generally should be made , something that everyone should abide by. Ethics and morals—sometimes they can even be used interchangeably, but they still have a little difference. Ethics is more like a principle. For instance, in the medical field , there are ethics that guide that field. You see medical students swearing on their induction day; those things are ethics of the profession. For example, they brought a criminal to the hospital; why do you want to save this person that is bad? Why not just kill him since he is a bad person? But the ethics of that profession forbid you from doing that. The ethics say, Save that life. It's not your duty to take life; it's your duty to save life ! It doesn't matter.
Morals are more like a personal thing , like, say, our beliefs, our values, and things we attach value to. We all have basic things that we consider right or wrong on an individual basis.
Both ethics and morals talk about right and wrong, but ethics is mostly like in the social context , corporate bodies, etc., but morals is more personal .
If you want to consider ethics and morals, that means you will need to bring everybody's belief into it, but then, we have contradicting beliefs! You see, there is no way you can balance it. That's why law is blind; it doesn't care what is right for you or wrong; NO, it is what is good for the society; it's simple. If in your place, stealing is not a crime, for example , but it is in other places, the fact that it's not a crime in your place doesn't mean you should steal because the law says, DO NOT STEAL!
... Also, no one should do what pleases them regardless of if a crime isn't committed. This is because , the moment everyone does what pleases them according to their morals and values , that place is now lawless. "Laws are not always pleasant. It's not always what people enjoy, but it's something that keeps everybody together". So everyone should obey the law, whether you like it or not. The moment is not like that; it's no more law. Everyone is now living the way they want, which is according to one's moral or belief, and of course everyone has different beliefs.
Overall, it's a no-no; ethics and morals shouldn't be considered while making laws in a country.
