Hello everyone. How are you? I hope you are doing well. This time the theme is really interesting, which is about the problem of equilibrium. I would like to introduce where I live. I live in Indonesia which only has two seasons, namely the dry season and the rainy season. April to October, we enter the long dry season. The rest, from October to April, we experience the rainy season.
So, what are the conditions in Indonesia today? Actually, for today, the climate in Indonesia is not fixed on these two things. Today is almost entering July. And, rain is still falling in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta. In fact, today when the dry season arrives, Jakarta is starting to feel cold. With previous years, namely the morning is no longer cold.
Jakarta usually starts to feel a little hot since the morning. And, today, Jakarta is experiencing a cold temperature. This is also due to the climate turban that occurs. Well, what about floods? Actually, talking about floods, for me floods are also talking about the handling of local governments. Where they cannot handle floods.
Floods, whether they are recognized or not, floods are a disaster. But, on the other hand, the infrastructure to overcome the flood needs to be questioned. Well, I want to talk about the flood that happened in Jakarta and its surroundings. Last March, because of the quite high rainfall, several areas in Jakarta experienced flooding, but fortunately the local government handled it quickly. The flood could be overcome in less than 10 hours.
In March, the rainfall was still quite high and the impact was flooding everywhere. In fact, in early March, there were flash floods and landslides in the Cianjur and Bogor areas. In fact, it claimed lives. Then, several houses were damaged by the disaster. Several vehicles were swept away by the flood in the Puncak area. Quite terrible.
This is due to the quite extreme climate change. But, there is one more problem, the reforestation and the clearing of rain in the Bogor area. So, the water absorbed by the soil when it rains is not optimal. Then, it flows directly to residents and a disaster occurs. Climate change is indeed the main factor in this problem, but on the other hand there are others that support and exacerbate the problem.
If reforestation and forests were not cleared in the Puncak Bogor area, maybe yesterday's tragedy would not have been so severe. Another thing I want to highlight is related to temperature changes. It is indeed felt, especially when I feel in Bandung. I grew up and was born in Bandung, in any area it feels very cold.
When I was in school, until 8 am, the temperature was still cold. Currently, the temperature in Bandung does not feel cold. It is still cold, but not as piercing as a few years ago. Sometimes, I have to wear layers of clothing if I am in certain areas such as Lembang. That's all I can tell, this is a story about the conditions I experience. See you again.

My name is Nurdiani Latifah. I live in Jakarta – Indonesia, and after 25 years I live in Bandung. I am a media staff at an NGO in Indonesia. I have worked in this institution for almost 2 years on issues of women and peace. I have been a journalist in Bandung for 3 years.
