The admin and moderators of the Hive Learner's community have organised another captivating and educative contest for us to engage in this week. More grace and wisdom to you all as you continue to bring quality contents for us.
I welcome you to my entry on the 64th (03) week of the Hive Learner's featured post, where I would be telling you about a time I was wrongly accused.
I Was Accused Of Stealing A Phone |
---|
This incident had happened many years ago, but It's still in my memory like it happened yesterday. It was in my secondary school back then in 2015, when I was still about 15 years of age.
At that time I was using a Nokia C2 button phone which was given to me as a gift by my Dad. I usually take the phone to school and together with my friends we would use it to play games like Assassin Creed, Motor racing and Mortal Kombat.

Our school was more like a military school, and discipline was their watch word. They was a very strong rule against the use of phones in school, because the teachers saw it as a distraction to is the students.
Even with this rule being implemented, we still always find a way to smuggle our phones to school and play with it when the teachers are not in class.
We had this mindset of "steal but don't be caught", lol. It so happens that our teachers hardly catches is with our phones,. Infact they believed we weren't bringing phones to school, and we played along like we weren't bringing phones to school.
Everything was going great and calm until a certain boy was caught with a phone in a senior class. The teacher that caught the boy reported him to the military personnel in charge of discipline for the week, and he was flogged mercilessly, as he was used as an example for future offenders.

This made alot of us afraid to bring our phones back to school, but after a few weeks we started smuggling our phones to school again.
As badluck may have it, the day I brought my phone to school was the day our teacher's phone got missing in our class. Mr Bones as we funly call him is a funny and lovely teacher, but that day we saw a different side of him.
He insisted that he brought his phone with him to the class, and that he isn't finding it now, which means that someone had stolen his phone during his rowdy movements and funny demonstrations in class.
We were already on our knees, as he was threatening to disgrace us all if we do not provide who stole his phone. At this point the military personnel on duty for the wee was already on his way to our class after being notified of the emergency.
At this time my mind was on the phone I brought to school, how was I going to hide it from that wicked military man, because bringing a phone to school was an offense, and I would be automatically punished anyways.
Out of what I would call fear, I sneaked out of the class when Mr Bones was already checking other students. I went to give my phone to a friend in another class because I never wanted it to be seen on me.
I believe I wasn't thinking properly at that time, because many thinking of it now, I realized they were many other options I would have taken better than the one I did (sneaking out of the class to hide my phone).
While I was coming back, I realized that the military personnel had caught some other students with their own phones in class, and he was punishing them already.
Something inside of me told me not to go into that class again, but I said my conscience was clear, as I was sure I didn't steal the phone. But just as I stepped into the class, what I heard was "Sir, look at him here."
I was immediately slapped by Mr Bones, as he was very furious. What even shocked me the most was the question he asked me, "where is the phone you stole!" he shouted angrily.
It was at this moment I knew I was in trouble, because evéry reasonable person would clearly suspect me, I guess you are suspecting me too right? But truth is I never stole Mr Bones phone.
I suffered like never before that day, as the wicked military man dealt with me, and even threatened to kill me if I don't provide that phone.
Most of my close friends believede thou, but a greater number of my classmates equally suspected I stole our teachers phone, because I sneaked out of the class.

The saddest part of the whole incident is that up till this day, nobody has told me that the phone has been seen, and that gave me a bad record in the school. I was thinking Mr Bones would later find his phone, and come back to apologise to me, but no, it never happened.
All through the rest of my schooling days there I was traumatized, as this was very disturbing and uncomfortable for me. The only thing that saved my record in that school was my athletism, as I represented that school on sport activities, and made my school proud.
The Lesson I Learned From This Incident |
---|
I learnt that in life we should'nt rush into conclusion based on our imaginations and perspectives of a particular situation.
I had already concluded in my mind that the military personnel would catch and punish me severely for bringing a phone to school, so I decided to sneak out without thinking about other factors and possible outcomes.
Those students that were caught with their phones were given just light punishment compared to what I faced. Fear was another major cause of my problem, and from that day on my fear died.
