Just like memories, some events are very special and must have had positive impacts through life thereafter. We came to hear stories about remarkable events that occurred even before we were born, but they are some histories we still wish we witnessed first-hand, so as to feel what the people felt at that time.
Infact, we all at one point or the other must have witnessed events and wished we could witness them again and again, atleast for the excitement and joy felt at the time of the event.
Personally, I have had lots of events I still wish I could witness again, talk more an event I totally missed from start to finish. An event witnessed first-hand can't be compared to that which was told to you by someone else.

If I were opportuned to witness an historical event in Nigeria it would be to witness the historic event of oil discovery in Bayelsa, Nigeria.
It was in 1958 that this incredible milestone for the Nigerian oil industry was achieved, and the ripple effects of this discovery have been felt throughout the entire country ever since.
Not being able to witness this event in person was a huge disappointment, as it was an incredible moment in history. I can only imagine how exciting it must have been for those lucky enough to be there and experience the thrill of the oil discovery firsthand.
In the early 20th century, the search for oil in Nigeria began. Foreign companies, like Shell, took the lead in exploring the vast potential of the Niger Delta region.

These companies conducted surveys and drilling activities, hoping to strike gold, or in this case, black gold. The Nigerian government also recognized the economic possibilities and played a role in promoting and regulating the industry.
It was a time of excitement and anticipation, as everyone searched for the precious resource that would transform Nigeria's future. The search for oil was not easy, but it laid the foundation for the incredible discovery that later changed the course of history.
Why I Wish To Witness This Discovery First-Hand |

It's important to state that Oil was first discovered and drilled from my hometown here in Bayelsa Nigeria. Infact, history has it that my forefathers who were present at that time were highly compassated in cash for pollutions and damages caused by the oil drillage.
The impact of oil on Nigeria's economy and society cannot be overstated, because since the discovery of oil in Oloibiri, Nigeria has experienced significant economic growth and transformation.
The influx of oil revenue has allowed the government to invest in infrastructure projects, education, healthcare, and other critical sectors.
As I reflect on the incredible journey of Nigeria's oil industry, one feeling that weighs heavily on me are wishes. Wishes to being able to witness firsthand the historic moment of oil discovery in Bayelsa, Nigeria.
Knowing that I missed out on experiencing a pivotal event in my country's history, and to think that it started from my hometown is a bigger reason why I wished to be there.
I can only imagine the excitement and awe that filled the air as the oil burst forth from the ground, signaling a new era for Nigeria. The impact of that moment continues to shape our nation, and I deeply regret not being there to witness it unfold before my eyes.
If I had witnessed the first oil drillage in Nigeria, I would have gained alot, both financially and academically. I know this because I grew up to meet lots of petrochemical engineers in our family, and legend has it that most citizens were inspired and sponsored to learn oil related courses.

For the fact that most witnesses made it big in the field of oil discovery is enough reason to know that they were allowed to learn and explore the field of oil drillage.
For me, I think the feeling of excitement from witnessing this huge milestone from my hometown would have been unmatched.
