I have heard many people complained about the poor treatment they received when they visit a government institution. One major thing they talk about is how government workers care less about properly handling their duty post.
When it comes to the health sector, patients always complain that the activities in a government hospital is not as good as that of the private hospital.
One major complain I always hear is the fact that they will need to go a long distance from the ward to the lab center just to give a sample or do a scan.
Inarguably, navigating through government hospitals can be very stressful due to how big the hospital is.
Private sectors on the other hand is hailed due to it is very organized, easy to navigate and a person do not need to go through many processes before they get what they want.
Government workers are good people, but then, compared to private workers, government workers are not actually up and doing.
I remember when I went to the ministry of health to get something. I have forgotten what exactly I went to get, but I know it was very important.
I went to the ministry of health as early as 8am hoping that they would be in the office already but when I got there, I saw nobody. The entire ministry of health was literally empty, though the doors were open.
I went down stairs to ask the people I saw around if the ministry of health will open its office that day, and they responded positively. They added that I need to wait for them.
I had no choice, so, I waited. I was seated for a long time before I began to see people coming in one by one. By this time, it was already 9am to 9:30am. I had waited for about an hour and thirty minutes but still, the office I had business with was not open. After about a few extra minutes of waiting, I was getting really tired and my patience was running out. Why would an office worker be this late? I began to ask myself as I stare at the office door.
Thankfully, I had my phone to keep me company. After some extra minutes of waiting, the woman that operates the office came in and did not allow any body inside.
She waited for some ten minutes (maybe praying) before she started sweeping the office. It took a while before I entered the office to do what I came for. Even when I entered, she still frustrated me a little while doing what I came for.
Though I got what I came for, I ended up leaving the office late. I came early morning and I left around 11am, for something that would normally not take up to 30 minutes.
When it comes to punctuality, private sector is actually better than government, but the disadvantages with a private sector is the expensive services.
Though I have not actually visited a private sector for any significant thing before, I was opportune to work with a private hospital.
The administration was very strict with punctuality. The resumption time is by 8am for morning shift, 2pm for afternoon shift and 7pm of night shift. If a staff comes 1 minute late, they will be seriously queried and served a warning letter with threats of firing late comer.
One major problem patients complained of is the over expensive bills. The bills over there is very expensive. The price to procure a hospital card is way more expensive than that of the government hospital.
Imagine buying a hospital card for 20k Naira. This does not include other fees and medications you'll buy. The card only gives you access to see the doctor.
After discharge, most patients go home with bills that are too much. Millions of naira spent in the hospital to alleviate their sickness. Still, people come to the hospital because of the quality care they provide.
When it comes to getting services, I prefer the government sectors because they have more experienced and skilled personnel. Though some of these personnel's are not really into their work.
Also, I prefer to work with the government than to work with a private sector. With the government, there is job security but with a private sector, there is hardly any private organization that will offer job security. You can be fired at any time for the slightest mistake. It just takes three words, "you are fired."
