Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. Many of us make the mistake of thinking every abnormality or discomfort in our health requires medication, and when we are given any other prescription or advice that is not medication that we feel uncomfortable about, we doubt, and sometimes we fail to follow the instructions or prescription we are given. There are cases where we actually prefer to ignore the prescription than go with it because what we're told or given does not make any sense to us. A friend of mine, after being given a prescription by a doctor once, asked the doctor if that was all, and the doctor said yes, and he asked if the doctor was serious or joking. There are some prescriptions that sound like a joke, and many people take them for granted, and it ends badly for them.
No matter how much of a joke a prescription sounds to you, take it seriously for your own good. You need to have it at the back of your mind that you don't always need loads of tablets to feel better after feeling sick or ill; sometimes all you need are some basic things, a change of lifestyle, a change of diet, or maybe you are not hydrated enough. It is not always medications; sometimes it's one of the many things listed above, but the mentality that every small illness requires us to take loads and loads of tablets won't let us take the basic things seriously.
Years ago, I must have been around 8 or 9 years old when I found out I could go 2 days without drinking water. No matter what I ate or did, I could stay that long without water, and I made it known to my siblings. I called it a superpower, and they all believed me after a challenge in which I went 2 days straight without drinking water, even after eating.
Then they challenged me again that if I can go 3 days straight, they will give me my crown and even help me do my chores for a week. Back then we all loved just relaxing while others did all the chores, so I rushed to accept not just for the crown but for them to do my chores for a whole week. I did 3 days without drinking water, but I was eating, moving around, and even under the scorching sun because then we were living in the northern part of the country, and we all know how hot that area can be, so picture going days without water.
A few weeks later, I started noticing that whenever I wanted to urinate, I had severe pains at the lower part of my abdomen. I told my mom, and as expected, we rushed to the hospital, and as usual, loads and loads of tablets were given, but 3 days have passed, and the pain did not go away, so my mom started telling neighbors and asking for an alternative. A woman in the neighborhood then told her there is something called Rana (meaning sun); it affects people who are not hydrated enough, and it causes the lower abdomen to hurt whenever you want to urinate because you do not have enough water inside of you. That is why the lower abdomen hurts.
All I needed to do was to drink 5 liters of water every day. Mom immediately secured a 5-liter keg and made filling it up to the brim daily a habit and ensured that I finished it before the day ran out. This change of lifestyle worked like magic; 2 days later I was feeling better and the pain was no more. Sometimes it is not the medication that you need; you just need a change of lifestyle.
