Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. No doubt how important it is to learn a skill, whether a digital or offline skill; the importance of having one or even two cannot be overemphasized. Many people see skill learning as something they will not engage in, but I see it as something everyone ought to be engaged in; having a skill is something that always comes in handy when the time comes, and if you lack it at that time, you will be left stranded.
One mistake I made growing up was refusing to learn a skill despite how much my parents and even friends pushed me to. I was one of those who even went as far as laughing at those who were learning one skill or the other, especially my friend that was learning welding and another that was an apprentice at a mechanic workshop, but today they have mastered their skills and are very good at them. Not learning a skill affected me for a very long time, and I kept seeing reasons why learning a skill was necessary, though I thought it was not important, but when life put me face-to-face with reality, I saw the importance.
I got to school, and I saw how people with skills were using their skills to support themselves in school. One thing with being in school is that depending on home completely for everything is bad, and they cannot do it all for you, and if you keep depending on them, they will definitely get tired; hence, the need for a skill so you can use that to sustain and support yourself in school, and any other support you get from home will serve as extra. I was later opportuned to learn a skill while in school, and that time it was stressful adding both learning a skill and pursuing my academics, but I managed to, and since then it has been serving as an extra source of income.
But one skill is not enough, especially in a country like mine, and if opportunity presents itself, I will learn even more because to survive in a country like mine, you need to be like a jack of all trades and master all of them or be good at them because that is exactly how you survive. When people need your service, you render it to them and then get paid for it.
So assuming opportunity presents itself and I am given the chance to learn another skill in one month, which skill will I try to learn in one month?
I am definitely learning video editing and the basics of photography because both go hand in hand. Even if one month is not enough to learn it all, I can actually learn the basics, and over time I can perfect my craft and learn other things that I need to learn about the skill. Video editing is quite lucrative if you know your craft, and it is something I have passion for; I believe passion will serve as fuel.
