I have sat down, pondering what it is that such a place like Hive could possibly need to work on. Most definitely, it is not perfect, but considering how much improvement we have had so far and how things work well, it can be a little hard to think of more.
The thought of my everyday experience came eventually, and there are indeed certain things that I would like improved.
A Quick Tour
When I came to Hive, there was nothing like "a quick tour" to help me get acquainted with how to use whatever UI I may have been on. There wasn't anything that would enlighten me about the general knowledge of things like communities, upvotes and downvotes, plagiarism and why it's frowned upon, what your keys are, and what not. I had only my onboarder to teach me all that and more. What about those who just joined in on their own?
On Discord, there is a type of onboarding experience that server owners can provide when new people join their servers. It can be customised to take the new members through certain channels with more information about that server and what they do there.
There are many articles and guides made by prolific authors that are very useful to newbies when they come in here. If something like that could be implemented in the frontends that we have here, maybe we would have people understand a little more about Hive and retain them.
For You Page
I am not sure about everyone else, but I don't exactly feel cool with the fact that the content I put out here sort of disappears after seven days. If there's a way to have people randomly find articles, maybe something like having a special feed that would respawn articles that may have been written a long time ago and would not be seen conventionally would be awesome.
Like on YouTube, where one can just find videos from months ago, this would be a really cool feature to further exhibit posts by authors that did very well—with upvotes and engagement—and bring more light to the author on their previous works.
Day one until seven is usually the time frame in which people see a published post. After that, that's pretty much it. No one really sees it. Maybe this can be fixed.
Surely, having every single post by every user just pop up every now and then would not really be so viable, but something like the ones that really do well with upvotes, have a lot of engagement, or have keywords that the SEO would pick according to a user's recent activities could work.
Hive Profile on Discord
This may seem a tad bit trivial, but I think it would be really cool if it existed. And, also, it could get people who are oblivious about Hive curious.
There is this thing called "Connections" on Discord. With it, one can link up their accounts from various platforms and have them displayed with a link to them, if they want that. I think it is pretty nice to have such a thing. How much cooler would it be if we could just have something like that for Hive?
There are a lot of things that can be done to make Hive better. Providing a Quick Tour feature, a For You Page, and a Hive Profile on Discord seem to me like pretty fascinating improvements to see on Hive. What do you think?
