Putting aside the economic challenges I face every now and then where I am from, I think we have certain things better than our ancestors did a couple of generations ago. For one, there's the Hive blockchain, which is fundamentally an example of the result of having people come together to form societies, co-create and develop infrastructure, and introduce transformative innovations and technologies.
As a result of all that development brought about by our advancements as humans over the centuries, what we have now is a world that is advanced and complex. There are so many intricacies to what makes up our world now. At certain points in time, right from the dawn of the human race, we have had evolutions that have brought us where we are now.
Where we are now is a point where we have seen drastic movements in certain sectors of our lives. For one, the recent developments and advancements in the tech space with the rapid rise of AI have taken us through a leap in productivity and innovation, where we are seeing things that we never really thought possible come to life before our very eyes. Seen AI videos before? Those things are radical!
It's all pretty and cool the way we have developed to now have infrastructure like electricity and roads, urbanisation, deeply rooted economies, political structures and governments, societies, and belief systems. It paves the way for the further advancement of the human race. Civilization, dear reader, is how we got here.
Many times over, I have thought to myself and considered the fact that I am indeed privileged to be alive at this time to witness the massive difference between now and many centuries ago and to also benefit from it all.
What would the world be like if we didn't have ourselves gather together to put ideas, concepts, and energy together to make the world better for ourselves? Because we have civilizations, we have a wide range of cultural expressions, such as art and music. contributing to the diversity that we have in the world today, hence proving this cultural richness.
The prosperity of mankind is heavily dependent on the collaborative efforts we have made through civilizations. With every development of a solution, however, comes the creation of a new problem. And this leads to certain undesirable results from having this power.
Infrastructure often implies affecting our environments, invariably meaning that the expansion of civilization somehow leads to the degradation of our environment, like deforestation and pollution.
Social inequalities, conflict, and wars spring up as there is competition for resources and power within and between civilizations.
Overdependence on technology is another aspect of it. With the increasing development of systems that require little human input to function, overly relying on technology can make us vulnerable to disruptions when it fails.
The list can go on and on, highlighting the downsides of living in civilization as well as the advantages, but it is safe to say that there are way more benefits that civilization has brought us than times when having it becomes an issue.
It is our responsibility as humans and benefactors of civilizations to steer the world towards some place where there's peace and tranquillity.
