Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is "Self-driving cars," but first, what does self-driving car mean? Self-driving car, also known as autonomous vehicle, is a car that can drive itself without any human intervention. So let's dive into it.
Technology keeps evolving day by day, and I am a lover of any innovation that technology produces, and one of the innovations is the self-driving car, which is a combination of artificial intelligence and electronics to navigate our road without the need for human intervention.
If I were to buy a self-driving car, I would think about a few important things first before I could buy it. The first thing to think is that the place where I live matters a lot because in my area there is a lot of infrastructure, such as bad roads, potholes, etc. These types of self-driving cars are best to use in the cities with how good the roads and good traffic signs are. But in the event where the vehicle gets involved in an accident, who is to blame? Is it the owner of the vehicle or the company that manufactures such a vehicle? We humans love to put blame on something or someone else for our mistakes; instead of us admitting our mistakes, we won't admit it. So between the owner of the vehicle and the manufacturer, who is to blame? Truth be told, it's hard and complicated to know who to blame.
Let me start with the owner of the vehicle.
We know that the reasons why accidents occur on the road are either the road is bad, there's potholes, the driver who's driving the car is drunk, or they refuse to obey the traffic signs; these are what cause accidents on the road. So concerning: if the self-driving car got into an accident, who is to blame? We already know that the self driven car is a smart vehicle with the combination of artificial intelligence, and it has been programmed to detect their surroundings, obstacles, and obey traffic signs. We already know that since they have been programmed and they must obey the traffic signs, from nowhere another vehicle can hit the self driven car, which can result in accidents which is common on the road, a car can hit another car. In a situation like that, we can't blame the manufacturer of the car; instead, we have to blame the other car that hit the self driven car.

Another situation is that since the self driven car is a combination of artificial intelligence and electronics, the manufacturer of the car would have programmed it so that they can be conscious of their surroundings and also would have reduced the speed of the car, so if the owner of the car increases the pace of the car because they are in a hurry or he/she wants to meet a deadline and they meet an accident, the owner of the car must take the blame for their actions.
So for the manufacturer of the car
We already know that the self-driving car is an autonomous car, and the company that manufactured it would have programmed the car to be able for the car to understand their surroundings, operate safely on the roads, detect any obstacles on the road, and obey the traffic signs because the car is an Al car. So in my understanding of the self driven car getting involved in an accident and the owner of the car discovering that it's due to technical problem, the manufacturer must be ready to take the blame for their recklessness, take responsibility for their actions, and they must be ready to take any punishment the buyer would give them because they have put the mind of the buyer of the car at rest, letting them know that the vehicle is smart and can detect their surroundings and any obstacles in the road.
In conclusion, we have to look deep into the matter in order for us to know what led to the accident so that we will be able to determine who to blame between them.
