Good day, people of Hive. Happy new week.
Before I go deep into today's newbie initiative tasks 3, I will first of all talk about using protection over our key.
WHAT IS PROTECTION
Protection is when we keep something or someone safe. And it's also refer to keeping something secure from danger or attack.
You know nowadays, the issue of security over our things that are valuable to us is something we can not overlooked in our daily life. Nowadays, we have some cyber criminals and other things some criminals use to fraud people are trying their best or are working extremely to find ways to extort resources from people and they are waiting for any opportunity to strike on the people and when they see the opportunity they can bankrupt the people and this can lead the people into depression, suicide, etc.
So, that's why on Hive blockchain they decided to create a various key for various purposes on the blockchain and this key are handed to user who create an account on the blockchain, and the key are expected to be protected by the owner so that people won't have any access on it.
Best ways to keep our keys safe
- Dont mind the length of how you will keep your key safe
- Save it as PDF, and lock it so that it won't be accessible to other people.
- Save it in your mail/cloud storage. Not advisable because even mail are hackable.
- Save it as contacts and omitt an alphabet or number that you can easily remember.
By using these ways people won't have any access on it.
So let dive into today's task topic on newbie initiative.
Steps involved in changing the trustee accounts (recovery accounts) on your Hive account
If I decided to change my trustee account or recovery account what are the procedure.
I will go to my Hive profile, after that under my Hive profile there's a column for setting and beside the setting there's three dots, so I will click on the three dots and it will bring out some options, so out of the options I will click on Keys and Permission, then after clicking on it, it will bring out some options again, so out of the options I will select on recovery account, then after clicking on it I will scroll down and change my recovery account to the person I choose as my trustee and the person must be someone I trust and I can easily reach out and the person must know and understand about the Hive blockchain.
Functions of each keys on Hive
We have five keys on Hive and they are;Owner key, Master key, Posting key, Active key, and Memo key.
- Owner key:- It is to reset and reclaim our account and it's made for us alone and we can use it to recover other password or pass key, and if the owner key is linked out they can use it to strip off our account and they can change our details.
- Master key:- It can be used to generate other keys that been misplaced and recover on account.
- Posting key/engagement key:- It is use to login and publish posts and do everything relating to posts e.g, commenting, and voting on people's posts.
- Active key:- It is use for financial transactions, powering up, withdrawing and transferring funds and token to other people. And if this key is linked or exposed our resources can be wiped out.
- Memo key:- It is use to send and encrypted messages and also decrypt encrypted messages, and this key is hardly use among the keys.
If my active key get exposed what will I do
First, when I see that my active key is exposed or linked out, what I will do is change my keys before any harm is done to my account, and if I see it's beyond my power then I will quickly reach out to my trustee for help so that he/she will help me out.
By writing all this I hope you understand the reason why we must protect our key no matter what so that it's won't be exposed or linked out.
