I am so excited about this particular prompt of week 140 episode three, I have watched a lot of people online punish their kids in several ways, some can call the modern methods of correcting a child is by just patting them at the back or depriving them of the pleasurable things they enjoy like :
watching movies; collecting their phones, reducing their time watching TVs, or Watching of movies on their phones is restricted. Or
**Not buying them what they love; e.g not buying them burgers, biscuits, or clothes or anything they actually cherish,
Punishment by isolation ; e.g keep them in detention block for some hours, or stopping them from talking to other kids and many more isolation methods.
Gentle Talking and verbal communication; children are usually corrected with calm and gentle methods, pointing how they messed up, and warning them not to do it again and again.
All these above are just some of the modern ways to correcting the children.
The question remains that are these methods actually working??
So far so good all I saw in most kids nowadays is a very nonchalant and children full with lack of discipline and degenerates.
Note some of this children are actually spoilt not because of the parents influences, it can be from exposure to peer pressure, norms of the time, technological exposure and many others but the truth is that the parents have a great deal of work to do in correcting and putting the children in the right paths.
These days we rarely see parents actually make their children suffer the consequence of their actions or wrongs we only see them, supporting them even though the children are derailing from morality and Godliness.
All these above method of punishment have little to no long term effect or means of making the children fear for doing wrongs, instead the children gets used to it and them create a form of resistance for it.
Almost all schools now does not even have a form of punishment like flogging and punishment like knelling down, stooling down, or riding imaginary bicycle and many other painful punishment that may create some form of fear in the mind of the children from doing anything reckless or bad again and again.
The Bible said in Proverbs 13:24, which reads, "Those who spare the rod hate their children, but those who love them are diligent to discipline them".
Only a parent that doesn't love their children will overlook them when they do bad or wrong or just give a mild punishment whenever a child did something knowingly and intended.
My own formula for punishment is to first talk to them (the children) about the wrong, putting their attention to how it can affect people around them and also them, warning them not to try it again and then what punishment would be inflicted on them if they try it;
After letting them know and they still do it then they would definitely be punished with either Hard punishment or cane. No going and coming after evaluating your pleading and regrets, if it's not genuine then I go ahead to punish.
In conclusion:
Punish your child where necessary, that is the only way to train them and they won't depart, even our God punishes sinners and believers.
