In the beginning, I would like to mention two main reasons for creating this post... Firstly, I was inspired to do it by the post from @ablaze, where he shared his thoughts and the "secret" how he reached 11K HivePower...
Secondly, I have deliberately created this post in the Hive Learners community as it could serve newbies to avoid some common mistakes... And also, to help them understand HIVE better and grow faster on this great platform!

Created in Canva.com
The topic is engagement... You have probably heard many times people writing posts about it, giving some tips on how you should do it, how many comments you should leave every day, etc... Where you should comment as you could get some "free" upvotes for doing it, how to stalk whales, who is the most generous... Wait, what??! 😃 Yes, you heard me right... I know many people who are doing exactly that... Having a list of people where to comment just to receive the upvote... Same as delegating your HivePower to some account just because you EXPECT to receive an upvote as a favor...
Let's stay just a second on that... Do you think that people who gave up on their freedom, or gave up their power to others, are those who succeed in the long run? Is that the "healthy" way to build a foundation for your social media account? To leave the work to someone else and you would just take the profits? Don't get me wrong... You CAN earn crypto by doing that, but you can't grow your social media reach, your influence, your leadership, your followers, etc... It depends what is your main focus... Quick buck or long-term success?

Back to the topic... Engagement... When I came to HIVE (the legacy chain), I did receive a similar suggestion as I mentioned... It was something like this: "Create at least 1 post per day, leave at least 5 comments per day (to different people) and you will see results in X days..." While that's not a bad recommendation, it is lacking more details... especially for the people who like to literally do what is told to them... As I am obviously not in that category (I couldn't even follow those simple rules, 1 post, 5 comments 😃), after some time, I have done things differently...
I didn't leave comments in the way you can see on the thumbnail for this post... I did fewer comments per day, but I would leave the comment only if I have read/watched the whole post and if I had some value to add to it... After a while (and still do), I got some feedback from people who were pleasantly surprised that I read their posts and left meaningful comments!
Wait... But nobody said that you have to leave a MEANINGFUL COMMENT to a post?! Indeed, nobody said that, but it was something natural that everyone should do it... Why not? I read something great, and I want to show my appreciation to the author... and not just that... The author helped me to learn something new, I OWE him a favor! If I could just help him too, it would be great... Wait, I can! I can leave a meaningful comment...

Something exactly like that happened on the @ablaze's post... I read his great post and left a simple comment...
...in return, I received a reply that confirms all that I wrote above in this post... Check it out by yourself...
What's the most interesting about all this is that I had an idea about creating this post BEFORE he wrote that, and his reply came later on as a great example that IT WORKS to be appreciative!

While I was checking some posts on HIVE I bumped on this comment...
I would understand if this comment came from a newbie, but the person who wrote this is 2 years on the platform... After a short check of the account, I saw that this member delegated all its HivePower to different curators who automatically upvote posts... Zero manual curation by the member, and almost no engagement on other people's posts... Well, with that kind of attitude, it is IMPOSSIBLE to grow your account... This is a social media network, ENGAGEMENT is the KEY!
Btw., I did the same when I start on this platform... I was chasing whale upvotes, delegating my HP for attention, trying to "get rich quick", and of course, I failed in that... Until I changed my way of thinking and invested my time in people, not in curators, whales, etc, but in people that were building and struggling like me...
Just one thing more... HIVE is a social media network, but it goes beyond that... You don't have to create content on HIVE to get some tokens, you can do that in different ways too... You can provide liquidity in diesel pools and get rewarded, you can play games built on HIVE, you can just curate posts, etc... In the end, you can do ALL that and boost your growth!
In the end, I would just repeat the words by @ablaze... If I can do it, you can do it too!
I hope this post will help someone...
Thank you for your time,
ph
