Setting goals is something that I have always done, except that I haven’t always put it down on paper or made it SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound). Having been given this task, here I go making SMART goals for the period of the Newbies Initiative programme.
QUESTION 1
What are your Hive goals by the end of the Initiative (in 3 months) in terms of Hive Power, followers, comments and engagements and any other Hive related goals you have in mind?
As regards Hive Power, I’m currently at 63 of which 50 was delegated to me. This means that since I started blogging in December, I’ve been able to get 13 HP. This is not much — yeah I know. But then, I’ve only made 11 posts since then, so it’s quite understandable. My goal is to attain 120 HP by the end of the three months.
I’ve made 84 comments since I began blogging on Hive and I plan to make it 400 by the end of the Initiative.
Talking about followers, I currently have 7. By the end of the programme, I plan to have 50.
My reputation currently is 50 and my goal is to bring it to 70.
QUESTION 2
How do you plan to achieve them?
My goal to attain 100HP by the end of the three months is achievable if I put in more work to make sure I have up to 3 posts up a week. I sometimes partake in The Inkwell weekly short story contest or the Freewriters Monday macro fiction contest and the Hive Learners weekly contests, but the plan now is to make sure to participate in at least one of the fiction contests, the Hive Learner’s contest and then come up with a post of my own that will add up to a minimum of 3 posts at the end of the week. That would amount to 36 posts at the end of 12 weeks. And, if I could get 13HP for 11 posts when I knew less about Hive, there’s no way I won’t have up to 120HP by the end of the programme.
As regards comments, my goal to make it to 400 can be achieved by being intentional and committed. I plan on viewing more posts daily and dropping meaningful comments as I do so — a minimum of 5 comments per day. With this, I’d definitely be hitting 400 comments at the end of three months.
About followers, to be honest, I haven’t been engaging as much as I should and engagement is one important way to gain followers because when there’s interaction between two people, interest arises which may lead to one person following the other or both following each other if they like each other’s contents. Therefore, I plan to put more effort in engaging with other Hivers on their posts and also on the Discord servers I joined. With this, I should be able to multiply the number of followers I currently have.
I plan to bring my reputation to 70 from 50 by putting more time into activities on Hive — commenting, reblogging and putting up more quality posts. I’ll be doubling my effort to do more on Hive and this should up my reputation.
QUESTION 3
What challenges do you think you may likely face trying to attain these goals?
The major challenge I may face is time. This is because I’m engaged in a lot of things. I spend hours crocheting, drawing, and when my laptop has power, I’m on a tech course. Now, due to the ongoing ASUU strike, I have more time on my hands to share amongst all the activities, but when school resumes, I’ll have less time to work with. Also, I spend a lot of time thinking about a post before getting down to it. I guess I’ll just have to make do with the time I have, managing my time, planning my activities and getting down to putting my posts together without spending hours thinking about it.
