The truth is, every country has its problems and challenges, and we keep hoping for a better future.
The progress of a nation is determined by a good and considerate leader, but seeing the situation of my country and what I have seen in my years of existence, we have been controlled by leaders who just want to embezzle and grant their wishes and not that of the citizens.
They do not care anymore once they get to that position.
We were made to believe their lies and we have been lured and deceived by their sugarcoated mouth. When they ascend the position, they feel powerful as no one could tell them what to do, but what they want to do.
“Things will get better.” This is something we keep hoping for and having faith that things will get better in my country, from which I am not excluded. I strongly believe that a great future is ahead of us, but we just do not know when and how it would happen. Let's just keep believing.
Should we talk about inflation in many things, including the food we eat that is so important to us? They are less concerned about the poor ones who cannot afford it, but do we have a choice? This is one reason people resort to stealing, killing, kidnapping and so on, just to survive. Do we blame them or how the system has turned out to be?
We will never stop preaching for one to learn a skill and never depend on the government, but what after we have learnt that skills, will that stop the price of things from going down? Many people have even stopped patronizing each other, but kind of do things on their own because they couldn't keep to spending more than what they earn as salary. Things are going up, but salaries are stuck where they are.
Should we also talk about Education in Nigeria? That one alone has turned into something else.
Yesterday, my friend and I were discussing about the strike that has been on for six months or so, and to make matter worse, we heard it's a warning strike because the real one hand just began. They have played and still playing with the student's education and life.
My friend was teary as she kept lamenting how their so-called children are studying abroad because if not, the strike would have been halted and made students go back to classes. Our country is just a mess.
These, and many more are happening here all because of the government's inability to manage things and plan accordingly. They do not care about other people's lives as long as they are doing fine. That's absurd.
The old ones aren't giving the young ones a chance to rule. They never wanted to leave the space and even try to see how things would go well or not with the young ones. They are supposed to have retired and started relaxing at home, but no, they just want to do it themselves.
How do you know one's ability if not given a chance to exhibit it? I wonder though!
WILL THERE BE A BETTER COUNTRY FOR US?
One thing I still do not understand with people is saying our votes don't count. Why? Whenever we are talking in my neighbourhood and the issue of this country is mentioned, I would be like “This is why we need to get our Voter's Card and vote for the right person” and they will be like “on that day, I will not leave my home”.
So, how do you want a change when you are excluding yourself from your right to vote, claiming that your vote won't count? At least, we need to try first. God will not come down from His throne to help us. He will only help when we do our best and take action.
How then do we do that?
If only every individual would cooperate and be in unity, because we don't seem to love ourselves because hatred has been planted in us for a very long time, and it's so difficult to come together.
When everyone wants to run away to another country just because ours has been messed up, how many would be left in Nigeria?
Let's step outside, pray to God and vote for the right person. With this, God can change a man's heart to suit His purpose and our country will be better. I believe things will get better, but until then, let's do our part with love, vote for the right person and hope for a greater future for the country.
