Cheating has become the norm of the day. It happens everywhere; in the office, at school, market, and even in the church which is supposed to be a place of holiness but when it comes to achieving one's aim purposefully, they rather cheat not minding where they are. People cheat for many reasons and I would explain some before proceeding to an experience of mine.
One major reason why people cheat is Greediness. Most people are selfish and lack contentment. They want to take everything to themselves not minding who they are hurting. They rather inflict pain on another just to satisfy their greedy act. Lack of self-control has led most people to indulge in cheating another fellow. One of the places this has happened is in the market. You will see market men and women cheating their customers all because of greed, wanting to make more profits and quick money. It hurt me when I discover those in this category adding more than the initial price of goods for their selfish gain. Most times, I don't allow them to cheat me in the sense that when a seller calls a big amount of goods to me, I will also bring the price lower than normal. At least it's called 'negotiation' and by the time we are done dragging up and down, we will come to a balanced ratio where we compromise. Something led to this act of mine which would be talked about soon.
Another reason for cheating is to meet up one's demands. An example is when a student involves in examination malpractice because he or she wants to get an A in his or her grade. People like this can do anything to achieve their aims and these are the kind of people that sees cheating as normal. They don't feel bad doing this because they go for whatever they want without thinking twice or backing out.
Also, some people cheat because they aren't satisfied. An individual who wants a higher position because they feel they deserve it more than the occupant, will cheat to get there. Then comes what is termed as "Revenge cheating" which mostly happens in relationships. When a man is caught having an affair with someone else by the main girlfriend or wife. Out of anger, she may cheat to get back at him for what he did to her.
Have I cheated or been cheated before?
The truth is, many of us have cheated in one way or the other. It may not necessarily be in the relationship aspect but in other areas just like the one I gave above. I have cheated too and there is something that would always bring me to check myself and get remorseful, and that is my conscience. I feel bad when I do that because I am hurting another fellow which isn't good. So, anytime I feel like cheating, my conscience would pinch me and would resist the urge to cheat. Since I don't want to be cheated, I avoid cheating others as I fear the law of karma which states that whatever one does to another, it will surely come back to you no matter how long it may take.
I was cheated some months ago and it made me sad knowing how I have been taken advantage of because I don't negotiate or haggle some prices of goods. I feel some sellers are struggling to make ends meet and I, on the other hand, love to show mercy and would some times leave the change for them. There is this woman I buy foodstuffs from, she sells frozen chicken too which I patronize every time as I enjoy eating chicken rather than meat.
I never knew she took advantage and started adding more price on it claiming the price has increased from the market. I kept buying from this woman thinking she was being nice not knowing she was taking advantage of me. My friend would say no wonder they used to cheat me but I would tell her these people need help too and if one can help, just do it.
One day, I went as usual in the morning to buy chicken but she hasn't opened. I decided to walk across the street in search of something to replace it which was fish. As I looked afar off, I saw a big banner and it was a new shop with frozen chicken, I was so happy. I went there and asked for the price which she told me. I was dumbfounded when I got to know the other woman added more than #500 to the initial price. I was hurt and said in my mind, "So this woman has been cheating me all this while. No problem". I bought it and left. Ever since then, I stopped buying chicken from the first woman because of what she has done. Apart from that, her foodstuffs were increased too which made me change to someone else whose price was a bit fairer than hers.
With what she did, I explained to my neighbours and they felt bad too. I wasn't happy with that because she could at least consider that money isn't that easy to earn. She changed me to someone who would beat down a price to the lowest amount before I buy anything. This was the only way I could get past the hurt I had when I was cheated and I feel good beating the price of goods to the lowest amount before coming to a desirable price which would be okay for the both of us. Some say I am mean to do that but I don't care. I won't allow anyone to cheat me, especially in purchasing goods that don't have a fixed price on them.
Cheating is bad and sooner or later, the secret will be revealed. Cheating causes shame and embarrassment in the end and I don't see why one should keep doing that to another, but because of selfish desires, greediness, lack of satisfaction/contentment, people are ready to go the extra mile and do whatever it will take to cheat another so they could achieve their gain which doesn't last but bring disgrace to them. Well, just as @nkemakonam89 said in her post that cheating is a choice; you either choose to be a cheater or live responsibly. To me, I would say cheating ruins a person's integrity and one should think twice before doing that. I doubt if it would happen and make people stop cheating. Cheating is in some people's genes. Lol
Thanks for your time on my blog.
