Life has been easy and soft in diverse ways since i became a hivean two years ago, it didn’t all start sweet and soft, i had to work hard daily to achieve everything I have today, and gradually my efforts started paying off in bits and bulk. It feels just like yesterday when i had to work different shifts and several hours from monday to saturday as a store keeper in a sugar factory just to make ends meet, there were times we were made to come to work on sundays, even with the fact that the number of days we signed up for upon joining the factory was 6 days weekly and 6 hours daily from Monday to Saturday, we had no say in the change of schedule and just accepted it as it came…
I was happy with the number of hours i was working as a store keeper but the stress and frustration was just too much, the tasks and assignments were health threatening and I couldn’t cope anymore, which made me leave before my third month. Prior to my job as a store keeper i was a loan collector who had to work from 8 am to sometimes 8 or 9 pm daily, from monday to friday, saturday and sunday are my weekends and i spend them enjoying different activities like other people do, unfortunately i had to quit because of the daily risk, and that was when I found the store keeping job, a job that is not any different from working as a laborer…
Honestly, these two jobs had both a good number of advantages and disadvantages, but if i am to choose between these two jobs, working as a load collector and working for 12 hours would be great, I prefer working for longer hours and having my weekends to myself rather than working shorter hours and sacrificing my weekends, it’s a bad deal…
Moving further into the topic of the day, having just four working days weekly is a very good idea, the truth is that we might have to work for longer hours than normal just to enjoy this privilege. I believe not everyone out there is capable of working for long hours, which makes this option a great disadvantage to them…
Shorter days at the office and longer hours on working days is like a suicide mission for some people, what’s the guarantee that one won’t be assigned tasks and assignments even on one’s off days, the fact is that no management is predictable, anything can happen and as someone who doesn’t want to lose his or her job, there’s no other choice than to work on their off days…
I believe this method is great for some people out there, given the fact that there is an agreement stating no work or assignments on my off days, but for those without a written agreement, it’s like a suicide mission…
In summary, working with this option is a 50/50 thingy, and for me I don’t think i will be able to work with an option like that, I would prefer working my 12 hours daily and having my weekends to myself and nothing more…
My weekends are very important to me, and that is because these days are the days I allocate to recovering from the stress of the week, it’s very important to recover and recuperate before another week sets in…
In conclusion, working five days every week and 12 hours or less daily is an option i would choose over and over again for a thousand and one reasons. I don’t think working 4 days weekly and long hours daily is a good bargain. Sleep, rest and naps are very important and healthy and working longer hours means sacrificing these things to an extent, which is something i can never do…
