First thing first, I pledge to Nigeria my country, to be faithful, loyal and honest, to serve Nigeria with all my what? 🫨🤔😂, please let’s leave the rest of the pledge to those who have the strength and also understand it well enough ahahahaha, because as for me, I don’t think I remember the rest of this pledge but I am sure to remember the whole pledge by the time I conclude this post of mine 😂…
A lot of flashbacks rushed through my head the moment I saw the first topic of the week, I was having a rush of emotions and thoughts, which came with a large amount of pain and anger because the last time one of these rights of ours was enforced, a lot of innocent citizens lost their lives and properties in the process of exercising their so called human rights, rights like freedom of speech has lead so many people to early deaths, which is not supposed to be so…
If there is one thing I have come to understand about my country in the last couple of years, it is the fact that there is limitation to every right we have as a citizen of the country, which means we can only claim our so called rights to an extent because overdoing it or constant claim of rights will lead to unbearable consequences at the end…
According to what I was taught in high school years ago, It was stated in the constitution that the right of every citizen must be respected and acknowledged, a quick one friends, in what way has our rights been protected, respected and acknowledged by our governments?, no way…
Choosing one between these two important rights; freedom of speech and right to privacy is indeed a huge deal to citizens like us, this is because these two rights are very important, and each one of them have different roles and responsibilities to play in our lives as citizens of the country…
In all fairness and honesty, they both are very important but if I were to choose one of the two, I will be going for right to privacy…
Mind you, my choice was not made on impulse, I came to this decision after summing up several things that has happened in the previous years over the course of exercising the so-called freedom of speech in this country…
One thing people don’t understand in this country is that there is indeed what we call freedom of speech but the freedom after speech is what is and has never been guaranteed, take the lives that were lost in the #endsars protest years ago as an example, they all lost their lives in the process of enforcing their human rights…
The best way to live a peaceful life in this country is by keeping your freedom of speech to yourself, I remember when my grandparents told me about the military dictatorship that took place years ago, there was nothing like exercising the freedom of speech right, if you voice anything out those times, the person will be buried within minutes because such person will be killed…
The ones above have the habit of instilling fear in we citizens of the country, they have never given us the right to speak freely and whenever they fake the chance, lives end up being lost and the endsars protest is a clear example that the result of exercising your freedom of speech is death…
Silence is the best way to live peacefully in this country, we can’t say or do anything because our lives are at stake, which is why I decided to go with the right to my privacy…
Oh yeah, the right to my privacy is something that needs to be respected because it is my personal right as a citizen, I will rather let go of my freedom of speech than to be deprived of my right to privacy…
The word privacy means not for any other eyes than yours alone, so this is the particular right I will go for…
Why right to privacy??
Honestly, the main reason why i decided to choose my right to privacy is because of security, this choice is safer than freedom of speech, I don’t want to lose my life over voicing out my opinions, right to my privacy is safer compared to exercising one’s freedom of speech, especially in this country…
How choosing my right to privacy over freedom of speech affect me as an individual???…
There is no doubt about the fact that I will be affected by my choice either but the point is that I get to keep my life choosing this particular right…
Choosing my right to privacy over freedom of speech means that I am not entitled to share some informations I don’t want others to know about, which means i can’t be forced to disclose something I don’t want a second or third party to know about, since it is my privacy, it is meant to be respected at all times, and also there will be few things to know about me in general and that is for people who aren’t close to me but for those close to me, it is still left to me to either want to share it with them or not…
This doesn’t call for violence, it is just a verbal communication between two parties, simple as that…
In summary, choosing my right to privacy means I get to live a life where my voice will never be heard, a life where my opinions won’t be heard and that is a worthy sacrifice to keep my right to privacy, since it ensures my life…
In conclusion, I hope I have been able to pass a message across to you all, freedom after speech is never guaranteed and lastly before I go, I finally remembered the pledge; to serve Nigeria with all my strength, to defend her unity and uphold her honor and glory, sharp 😎…
