Have you ever bought a particular goods anywhere, be it in the grocery store, supermarket, or local market, and after buying that particular goods, you ended up getting a headache trying to figure out what went wrong for such goods to have changed/reduced drastically over time?, I meant edible goods. I was in this same situation days ago and here was how the whole event unfolded;
My Dad, brother and I have been living a bachelor lifestyle since my mom got a job at a distance location, my mom who was once a full-time housewife became a scarce commodity in the house, the only time we get to see her is towards ending of the month, and this is because she is in charge of getting us our monthly food suppliesā¦
Whenever she comes, she spends just two days with us, which happens to be the first saturday and sunday of every month, itās been like this for months and we are slowly getting used to it, or should I say; we are managing instead š, it has not been easy dealing with the stress of what to cook and when to cook, there was mum to take care of this in the past, but now it is only the menly men of the house that are left to deal with all thisā¦
This is where the whole thing started getting interesting, the last time I visited the market or made use of some supplies like onions was months ago and back then #20 naira onions was as big as half my fist, this is to tell you I havenāt been to the market in a long while to know how crazy things has changedā¦
I went to visit a close acquaintance of mine last week, and fortunately for me I met them cooking, these acquaintances of mine were bachelors, seeing them in the kitchen was a familiar sight, it felt like the grown me and my elder brother in the kitchenā¦
They were preparing white rice and stew, I got there and greeted them, and that was how the conversation started, shortly after I got called into the kitchen and the next thing I heard was; Seyi, come and quickly run outside to get me onions, i picked up #100 and dashed outside to get the onionsā¦
I couldnāt get the onions nearby since it was on a Sunday afternoon, so I decided to go to a woman that sells pepper down the street, I got there and greeted her, and then I made my request; good afternoon ma, I want to buy #100 naira onions, she said okay and went to get me the onionsā¦
I collected the onions from her and paid, I collected the onions but I wasnāt focused enough to check what the woman gave me because I was playing DLS23 on my phone, I was half way home when something pricked me to check what I bought if it was good enough for the stewā¦
This was when the whole drama startedā¦
I was half way home when I dipped my hands in my pocket and brought out two small onions, I was confused, on a normal day these two onions costs #20 naira each, and I clearly remember telling the woman I want to buy #100 naira onions, why did she give me #40 naira onions?, or did she give me 5 onions that I misplaced three out of it?ā¦
These were the questions I was asking myself half way home, I started my ultimate search here, I decided to go back to the womanās shop with eyes focused on the ground looking for the lost three onions, I went to and fro and still didnāt see the onions, I searched my pockets like a crazy person checking if it has any torn spot, there was no issue with my shortsā¦
This was when I made my travel back to the womanās shop, I got there looking all confused and told the woman how she gave me #40 naira onions instead of #100 naira, the next reaction I got from her was a heavy laughter š, I was more confused and almost embarrassed, the only question in my head was why is this woman laughing š?ā¦
This was when I found out I was indeed in my right senses all along, and it was the world that had changed in the last couple of months, the woman told me she actually gave me two onions, which cost #100 for the two, meaning #50 naira eachā¦
I heard this, took a deep look at the two small onions and smiled at the woman, the two onions would easily go into one of nose šš, she further added that these two onions are the best ones she gave me. I asked her to bring the basket for me to select myself, she did so and what I saw in that basket convinced me that she indeed gave me the best ones šā¦
I got back home and delivered the errand with complaints of how small the onions are for that amount, these people didnāt say anything about it oh, it was like they knew how small it was beforehand, which means I was the only outcastā¦
In summary, I still couldnāt believe what I bought for that price from that woman, so I decided to try another place out the next day. I was about to prepare noodles yesterday so i decided to go buy #100 onions from a different traderā¦
I got there and the kind of onions she gave me was lesser than what I got the previous day for that same amount, I didnāt know when I told her to not worry about the onions again, I had to lie about having some left at home just to escape herā¦
In conclusion, I collected my change and traveled down to the woman I patronized the previous day, i bought her much better small onions and left happily, the one from yesterday was so small that it could enter my ears š, so I had no other choice than to take what the first woman had to offerā¦
